RELEVANT PROJECTS
Behavior of makespan in response to job- swapping in randomly structured flowshop August to November 2012
Department of Engineering, St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, TX
• Studied the behavior of sequences on (50) randomly structured four-machine, six-job flowshops
• Generated (50) randomly structured four-machine, six-job problems, and used an Excel-based sequence generator
to calculate the overall mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, range and normalized values of makespan
• The correlation coefficient for sequences with a starting position between 1.0 and 1.5 makespan standard
deviations was surprisingly high and was unable to formulate any reasonable assignable causes for this
phenomenon. It is recommended that other investigators pursue the issue at-hand by analyzing a larger number of
sequences in this range.
