Position Senior In-Home Family Intervention Specialist
Counselor
Job responsibilities include working within the structure of the home
setting with the primary goal of maintaining the family unit by addressing
the primary issues which may be putting a specific child or children at
risk of delinquency or being removed from the family’s home. The In-
Home Counselor is required to provide 24/7 on-call services, crisis
intervention, as well as meet with the family for 3 weekly sessions
totaling a minimum of 4 hours. The Counselor is required to interact with
other entities relative to 5 systems; the individual, the family, the
community, the educational system, and peer influences. Examples,
though not inclusive, could include social services, mental health
providers, the legal system, and school staff.
It is compulsory for the Counselor to maintain both a hard chart as well
as an electronic medical record by providing pertinent documentation
relating to a youths referral issues as well as the progress and/or
obstacles of the case. Examples include completed assessments, session
notes, as well as treatment and discharge plans. Counselor must attend 3
mandatory meetings per week with a consultant, supervisor, and all team
members to discuss case information and receive guidance as to how to
proceed in the best interests of the family. Periodic training sessions are
required in regard to referral issues, mental health disorders, learning
disabilities, and current interventions.

Job responsibilities include assisting youths’, ages ranging from birth to
19, to ensure that
all court procedures are followed appropriately and the best interest of
the youth is
protected. The YSO works closely with other agencies such as
Department of
Children Services, CASA, Youth Villages, and other mental health
agencies to address
abuse and neglect cases as well as determine their outcome while
providing 24/7 on-call
services. The YSO also processes all status or delinquent charges that
have been
mandated to court and provides all pertinent information so that the
Judge has the ability to
rule objectively. A YSO can also supervise juveniles during a probationary
period while they
are awaiting their next court date to ensure that all court orders are
followed appropriately.
