Technical Writer Hydroelectric Project

Modification and revision of hydroelectric operations manuals. Using

existing and new drawings and technical manuals, I researched current

equipment installations and modified operations manuals to agree with

project installations including SCADA, annunciation, and control circuitry.

The project had installed new voltage regulation, static excitation,

stator and rotor monitoring equipment which needed to be included and

updated in the manuals.

FOSTER WHEELER POWER PLANT: 06/2009 TO 07/2011

Tesoro Refinery, Concord, CA.

Power Plant Electrical Technician:

Maintenance, repair, installation, test, and troubleshooting of power plant

electrical and instrumentation equipment and systems. The plant operates 2

John Brown/GE gas turbine units and a Westinghouse steam turbine, for a

total output of 100 megawatts. I performed maintenance, and repairs to all

turbine electrical systems, a 230KV substation, 12KV switchgear, 480V

switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and distribution power lines. I

calibrated and repaired instruments for a water treatment plant and boiler

control system. My specific expertise was in power generation, motor

control, voltage regulation, excitation, metering, circuit breakers, and

PLC control systems. During outages I was responsible for rotor removals,

stator inspection, re-wedging, RTD installation, and the comprehensive

electrical testing of the generator. I made repairs and tested 12KV power

lines, disconnect switches, transformers, load-tap changers, 12KV reactors,

and oil-filled circuit breakers. My job included ordering material,

scheduling contract work, quality control, and implementing plant wide

electrical safety procedures. I supervised contract personnel and trained

plant technicians in maintenance procedures.

ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS: 11/2007-06/2009

Lookout Point Project, Willamette River, Oregon

Power Plant Electrician:

Maintenance, repair, installation, overhaul, and troubleshooting of

hydroelectric generation and flood control systems. As a high voltage

electrician and clearance holder I performed electrical maintenance during

annual, monthly,

and daily work involving several hydroelectric generation plants. I

reported to Lookout Point Project, which has (3)40 MW units @ 13.8 KV, and

also worked at Cougar Dam (2) 15 MW units, and Hills Creek (2) 30 MW Units.

My work included stator and rotor testing, excitation and voltage regulator

repairs, switchgear modifications and maintenance,

circuit breaker upgrades, new cable installations, battery bank and charger

installations, testing

of potential and current transformers to comply with NERC regulations,

short circuit and ARC FLASH analysis (assist engineering contractor),

repairs to spillway gate equipment, repairs to overhead cranes, motor

control repair/overhauls, and transformer Doble testing. I performed

protective relay testing and adjustment (electromechanical and

programmable), metering, CT, PT, and transducer calibration, and SCADA/

GDACS annunciation system installations. I worked on a variety of systems

and equipment such as elevators, monorails, air compressors, HVAC, fish

finders, floodgate controls, emergency diesel generators, and a variety of

pumps/motors/controls and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment. I was often called

in after-hours to perform troubleshooting and make repairs.

US BUREAU OF RECLAMATION: 10/2006 - 11/2007

American River, Folsom Dam, CA.

Power Systems Electrician:

As a Power Systems Electrician, I supported the operation of high voltage

equipment, including 12KV power generators, disconnects, transformers,

distribution panels, oil-filled and SF6 circuit breakers, 4160 volt pumping

plants, spillway gates, battery banks/UPS, elevators, building

modifications, and a variety of auxiliary gear surrounding a large

Reclamation/Generation dam. I worked at 3 different generation projects:

Folsom, New Melones, and Nimbus Dams. I supervised an electrical crew for

major underground high voltage modifications to the existing 12KV Folsom

distribution system, which involved numerous underground vault

installations, conduits, wiring, and switchgear upgrades. Performed

testing of SF6 and OCB breakers, disconnects, and transformers.

Maintenance, installation, modification, repair, and troubleshooting of

power plant equipment and auxiliary systems. Work included electrical,

and repair of company manufactured switchgear to 230KV.

Test and calibration of protective relays, circuit breakers, metering and

annunciation circuits, and overload/trip (86) devices. I was also the

Quality Assurance Inspector for in house switchgear units ranging from 480v

to 230KV, including

metal clad, UL rated, and ARC resistant switchgear. Traveled extensively

for test and repairs to government facilities. (i.e. Vandenberg AFB,

Edwards AFB, Lawrence- Livermore Labs). Performed extensive power system

At Southwest Marine, I supervised a crew of 6-20 electricians for the

installation, overhaul, repair, and modification of shipboard electrical

systems and equipment. Our work included US Navy, Coast Guard, MSC, NOAA,

and privately owned vessels. Installations included 200 KW generators,

emergency

diesel gensets, winch and crane control systems, boiler control systems,

Electrical Apprentice and Journeyman Systems Electrician:

After completing a 4 year electrical apprenticeship program, I performed

work as journeyman electrician in the test and switchboard section within

the electrical shop. My work included troubleshooting, manufacture, repair,

and modification of power generation, control, and distribution systems. I

overhauled a wide variety of motor control panels, 3200 amp circuit

breakers, and auto bus transfer equipment. Also performed load bank testing

of ship's generators including parallel and reactive loads. My shop repairs

included voltage regulators, rotating and static excitation panels, MG

(and a variety of NEMA size 00 to size 5 controllers by ABB, GE,

Rotated through all Naval Electrical Work Centers including motor rewind,

electro-plating, telephone, gyrocompass, switchboard, plug-making,

sonar/radar, generator test, field installation, and instrument design
