Project Work: "Optimization of process parameters in drilling Al-SiN metal

matrix composites material using Taguchi technique"

Project Description: In this experiment, an attempt has been made to

optimize the drilling parameters using the Taguchi's technique. Experiments

are carried out on machining the various %volume of SiN composite materials,

using the HSS tool for various cutting conditions and diameter of drill bit.

The input process parameters considered during experiments are speed, feed

and diameter of drill bit. The response variables measured for the analysis

are surface roughness, circularity and cylindricity. Analysis has been done

through various steps like calculating degrees of freedom, physical layout

and total response layout up to ANOVA table.

Scope for future work: A study can be conducted on the robustness of

diagnostic techniques, by considering a wide range of cutting conditions,

different combinations of tool-work materials and various drill sizes.The

effect of cutting fluids can also be studied.Experiments can be done for

acquiring additional process indicators such as thrust, torque etc. to

present work material correlate with surface roughness, circularity and

cylindricity.Experiment can be conducted by changing drill tool tip angle and

also by using different drill bit material composition like carbide tool.
