Accounting Manager / Vendor Financial Risk Manager

• Directs team in performing vendor financial due diligence, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis, and
communication of results to Executive Resource Allocation Committee. Team performs approximately 750 Vendor Financial
Risk Assessments annually, which is a key component of the vendor sourcing and selection process.
• Manages the financial analysis process, accounting for roughly 500 separate analyses annually (including
pricing analysis, benefits validation analysis, client profile and spend analysis, and market intelligence studies).
• Acts as principal financial and accounting officer for Enterprise Spend Management division, responsible for month-end
close, expense accruals, and accounting policy issues.
Key Achievements:
• Financial Planning & Analysis: Improved planning and forecasting process for division, working with cross-functional
groups to redesign and streamline the cost center structure. Results: Received rating of “Significantly Exceeds
Expectation” on the planning and forecasting objective in most recent performance review, which created efficiencies
in the planning and forecasting process.
• Model Risk Management - Validation: Directed team of Senior Analysts through the process of identifying, designing, and
implementing needed enhancements, as well as development of detailed documentation in order to comply with regulatory
standards. Results: Received the highest compliance rating from the BB&T model risk management department.
• Enhanced Vendor Mitigation Process: Formal guidelines were needed in the mitigation process for vendors that have been
rated as “High Risk” or “Elevated Concern” based on financial risk assessment. Developed written guidelines to be used by
lines of businesses in the risk mitigation process for their vendor relationships. Results: Guidelines have been formally
adopted for use by all lines of businesses that manage vendor relationships.
Accounting Manager – Real Estate Division

• Provided guidance and leadership on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in support of bank owned and
leased real estate portfolio (2,354 facilities), including subject matter expert guidance on acquisitions and disposals,
construction-in-process, lease accounting, expense accruals, and month-end close process.
• Accurate and timely reporting of SEC regulatory documentation related to capital leases and lease obligations, including
coordination of Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) reporting. Formulated and implemented accounting internal controls.
• Provided key guidance on mergers and acquisition of branches and corporate facilities, and acquisition and disposal of
corporate aircraft.
• Planning and forecasting $692 million annual occupancy expense budget.
Key Achievements:
• Accounting Policies and Procedures development: Implemented accounting processes and controls on the monthly close
process, including leases (Capital and Operating), accounting for properties in disposal status, and accounting adjustments for
market distressed properties. Results: Effective controls, efficient processes, and satisfactory internal audit of real
estate accounting processes and controls.

between banks and affiliates. Results: Leasing transactions between bank and affiliates are market based, and written

Division Controller – Financial Services

• Performed Chief Accounting role for lines of businesses including Investment Services-Brokerage, Insurance Services,
International, Asset Management, Institutional Trust, and Wealth Management.
• Provided key accounting support and acted as liaison between Financial Services lines-of-businesses and external auditors on
subsidiary audits, including issues on SEC and FINRA regulatory reporting.
• Designed and implemented management reporting, planning and forecasting process for division and multiple lines-of-

Key Achievement:
• Improved Management Reporting / Financial Planning & Analysis: Recognized the need to improve the management
reporting process to better measure variance in operating budgets for multiple lines of businesses. Utilizing the reporting tool
Cognos (later converted to Hyperion), consistent reporting was developed through an automated data capture. Results: The
monthly reporting was actionable from a management perspective. Division CFO had better information to manage
operating performance of multiple lines of businesses.
Treasury-Wholesale Funding Manager; Deposit Support Sales Manager

• Managed $15 billion wholesale funding position, including Fed Funds, Eurodollar deposits, Repurchase agreements,
Bank notes, Commercial paper, Institutional CDs, and Federal Home Loan Bank advances.
• Provided key input for the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) process. Interest rate risk and liquidity risk
management, including exposure to VAR stress testing, modeling and simulation. M&A responsibilities on funding.
• Developed deposit reporting and tracking system designed to aid banking network in deposit growth initiatives.
Key Achievement:
• Debt restructure: Developed a strategy to restructure $3 billion in debt following assessment of interest rate environment
and outlook. Organized cross-functional disciplines (Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and Compliance) to prepare final
proposal to Executive Management. Results: The strategy was approved by Executive Management and subsequently
executed, better positioning the company from both an interest rate risk and profitability standpoint.
