As a volunteer, I have aided and participated in the performances of
The Pageant of Our Lord, which involves dealing with people of all ages. I
offered my assistance in washing the make-up sponges and applying the make-
up to models, mixing paint and refilling bottles. I am also a model,
performing the remakes of various works of religious art as a painting or a
sculpture. Recently, I have been an artist, painting models in order to
recreate those pieces as well, which is a task that requires a lot of focus
and patience when dealing with other people. It is, in a way, a position of
authority, as I need to instruct the models on what to do, when they need
to be made up, how to get into their position, etc.
Self-published Author
I wrote three novel-length stories for an international, online
activity called National Novel Writing Month where, through the month of
November, participants are to write a fifty-thousand word novel. As a prize
for achieving this goal, I received a discount code for a free proof of my
novel, to be edited in the months after the designated writing month.
Through www.createspace.com, I was able to publish my novel and sell it via
Amazon.com and an e-store on the site itself, both of which offering me
royalties for each book sold.
Literary Magazine Editor
While at El Camino, I enrolled in a class called English 30. I joined
six or seven other students there for an entire semester which we spent
compiling submissions, reading, editing and rating art, poetry and short
stories into a small literary arts magazine which we called Myriad. I did
this for two semesters (the class was only available in spring), and at the
end we would host a reading and invited the many students that were
accepted into the journal that year to read their work. It is still one of
my favorite classes. It not only taught us to work as a team but gave us a
hands-on way of learning what it takes to produce a literary journal, as
well as answer e-mails in a professional manner, and manage our time
effectively in order to get everything done in an efficient manner.
Other Activities: Reading, Writing, Organizing Schedules, Myriad
