B.E final year Project
Project: Human Brain – Computer Interface using Electroencephalography.
Duration: 4 Months.
Type: Team (4 members)
Scope: Our goal was to build a brain computer interface using a PIC microcontroller. It is decided that
the least invasive way of measuring brain waves would be using electroencephalography
(EEG) to record microvolt range potential differences across locations on the userʹs scalp. In
order to accomplish this, a two stage amplification and filtering circuit are constructed.
Moreover, the built in ADC functionality of the microcontroller to digitize the signal is used.
Passive tin electrodes soaked in the bentonite paste are placed on the userʹs head and connected
to the amplifier board. The PIC microcontroller converts the analog values obtained from EEG
electrodes to digital form using programmed ADC instruction and sends it to a PC connected
to the microcontroller. The PC runs software written in MATLAB to plot the variations in
voltage level on the resultant signal. From there, we were able to control our own DC motor
rotation using our mindʹs brain waves.
In – Course Project
Project: Controller Design for ADC 0808
Duration: 2 Week.
Organisation: Sandeepani School of Embedded & VLSI Design, Bangalore.
Scope: ADC 0808 is an 8 bit microprocessor compatible analog to digital converter with 8 channel
Multiplexer which can access 8 analog inputs. It is a standalone device which on request,
converts the analog input at channel to digital. Hence there needs to be a mechanism to control
the conversion operation. This controller will generate control signals required for ADC to
perform as on request when any analog data is available. Also the controller is designed such
that it can be interfaced with other modules like SRAM or other memory elements to store the
converted digital value.
Hobby Project
Project: Digital Voltmeter
Duration: 1 Week.
Organisation: Li2 Innovations Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore
Scope: It was a short term internship project after the completion of 6 days’ workshop on Embedded
System Design. Input AC voltage of max. 230v is reduced to the range between 0v 5v range
via voltage divider and fed to microcontroller, where it is processed digitally.
