PATIENT ACCESS SERVICE SPECIALIST
My position serves as the single point of contact with new
patients/established patients that are in need of care.
I receive and make the initial phone call and coordinate the consultation
appointment with the physician and receive clinical and demographic
information required for initial visit.
I am responsible for receiving and processing all incoming phone calls and
web requests from patients, families, and referral sources both
internal/external for all new patients, second opinions and transfers of care
for patients seeking to come to the Department of Hematology/Oncology...
Responsibilities includes: pre-registration, coordinating appointments for
new patients appointments for our facilities within the Tri-Sate New Jersey
specialty care sites.
Collecting registration information for new patients to be entered into IDX,
EPIC and working to coordinate appointments for patients before and/or after
their first visit.
Coordinate, review, and update insurance eligibility for primary, 2ndry and
3rd party insurance carries prior to visit.
Request all materials necessary for their initial appointment, including
outside imaging films, pathology slides, office dictation notes, operative
reports, and all other necessary medical records from outside facilities,
referring physicians, primary care physicians and patients via email, fax or
mail.
Review all medical records that are received internally/externally for the
new patient's first initial visit.
Ensure that are required medical records and documentation are in the
patients chart for the physician and clinical team to review prior to the
first initial consultation.
Serves as a liaison between patients, families, referring physicians,
referring hospitals and the financial counselor(s) and case managers.

My responsibilities are live/in person patient registrations via IDX,
validation of patient claims prior to billing ensuring accurate bills are
sent to carriers, and resulting in faster claims processing in order to
receive an expedient return of revenue.
Verifying patient demographic information.
Obtaining referrals via Primary Care Physicians. Ensuring that billing
information for facility and professional claims is complete and accurate.
Contacting external companies to verify medical coverage, and Automotive
Accident claims. Handle verification of 2nd, 3rd party liability insurance.
Review and ensure all registrations have 100% accuracy for insurance, plan
codes, and demographic information prior to billing claim to insurance
carrier.
Thorough knowledge of managed care protocols and procedures.
Verifying insurance and benefits via IDX, EPIC, NAVINET and WEBMD
Assist with the training of new employees within the department.
