JOB SUMMARY

Perform essential laboratory testing that is critical to the detection,

diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Prepare and analyse body tissues,

blood and fluids for doctors and researchers in the diagnosis of

diseases. Work includes the use of microscopes, chemicals, computers, and

complex laboratory equipment and instruments. Perform tests in all sections

of the laboratory including haematology, bacteriology, chemistry,

urinalysis, serology, immunohematology, forensic pathology, immunology, and

toxicology. Work includes collecting blood specimen, inoculating cultures

needed to identify bacteria, monitoring the quality control of tests and

procedures, and reporting abnormal results to pathologists or higher level

medical technologists. Perform complex and sophisticated laboratory

analysis, evaluate the effects that a patient's physiological conditions

have on the results of the test performed, confirm test results and provide

the physician with the necessary data to determine the presence, extent,

cause, and treatment of the disease. Assume the responsibility for accurate

I. JOB SUMMARY

Performs phlebotomy, microscopic, hematologic, chemical, bacteriologic,

serologic or special tests using automated equipment and computerized

instruments capable of performing a number of tests simultaneously, as well

as microscopes and other sophisticated laboratory equipment to provide data

for use in detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases.

II. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. REGULAR DUTIES

1. Performs complex medical laboratory tests using manual, semi-manual

and automated equipment and computerized instruments.

2. Operates, calibrates and maintains equipment used in quantitative and

qualitative analysis.

3. Adheres to quality control standards. Monitors programs to ensure the

accuracy of laboratory results.

4. Sets up, cleans and maintains laboratory equipments.

5. Helps maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of equipment and work

station

6. Issues results and prepares reports.

7. Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

B. HEMATOLOGY, CLINICAL MICROSCOPY AND PHLEBOTOMY

1. Performs phlebotomy and finger / heel puncture.

2. Collects, handles and preserves specimen properly according to

prescribed procedures.

3. Examines and analyzes blood and body fluids.

C. CHEMISTRY

1. Prepares and checks requests and specimens, e.g. centrifugation,

proper entry of requests in masterlist.

2. Prepares specimens and analyzes the chemical and hormonal contents of

body fluids.

3. Stores and disposes specimen using proper waste management.

4. Checks and helps Supervisor in inventory of equipment, reagents and

supplies.

D. MICROBIOLOGY / BACTERIOLOGY

1. Performs reading of culture and sensitivity plates including

media.

3. Performs sensitivity testing of organism.
