CAREER OBJECTIVE
To join a company whose focus is in the production of quality software
products. To use my skills, experience, initiative, and stability to help
that company achieve that goal.
EXPERIENCE
Recently employed at the NASA/Johnson Space Center in the Graphics Software
Development Section of the Systems Engineering Simulator (SES) Laboratory
and the Flight Deck of the Future (FdotF) group. Research and development of
Space Shuttle real-time graphical displays and controls software.
Development of a web-based tool for simulation scheduling, and generating
usage reports.
2005 – 2013 Jacobs Engineering Houston, TX
Using GLStudio and C++, maintained and interfaced space capsule
(MPCV/Orion) displays and controls to flight subsystem models.
Developed and implemented the Portable Virtual Porthole (PVP) app for
iPad. This allowed external camera selection via iPad movement to be
used in a windowless or restricted viewing environment. Product was
used with favorable reviews during two-week confinement testing in the
Deep Space Habitat module at the Johnson Space Center.
Created several demonstration prototypes using a Kinect to incorporate
gesture control software into space capsule display navigation and
control. Created gestures and move objects around a 3D space using
MacOS and Processing language.
Assisted in the design and implementation of software used in a
Reconfigurable Cockpit, made up of multiple flat-panel configuration
with software to position a number of virtual switches, lights, and
instruments to test various cockpit prototypes. To be used to assist in
the design of a next generation crew exploration vehicle (CEV).
1993 – 2005 Hernandez Engineering Houston, TX
Integrated shuttle cockpit display system into a new Ascent/Entry
Trainer (AET) simulation to be used by trainers, crew, and engineers in
a desktop virtual cockpit situation.
Lead engineer for the development and enhancement of a web-based tool
that handles shuttle simulation scheduling, feedback, and numerous
reporting features using PHP and PostgreSQL. This automates a process
that had been done by paper, pen, and carbon-copies for numerous years.
Ported shuttle cockpit simulation display software from a Silicon
Graphics platform to a PC/Linux platform. This allows engineers to use
the simulation software from a desktop PC instead of reserving time in
the cockpit mockup.
Converted custom cockpit fonts from bitmaps to scalable texture maps.
Cockpit displays can now be resized and scaled during simulation
operation.
Implemented a Microsoft Excel-based table lookup data scheme to replace
the current requirement for Informix database software. This saved the
customer several thousands of dollars per year in licensing costs.
Implemented graphical virtual keypad software, which gives engineers
the capability of changing displays and entering data into the
simulation, without the added cost of custom-built hardware keypads.
1983 - 1993 Lockheed Engineering Houston, TX
Converted simulation and offline display generation software from
Silicon Graphics' proprietary GL graphics format and window manager to
OpenGL and X Windows. This utilized better open-source conformity and
provided cross-platform capability to allow for future movement away
from costly Silicon Graphics platforms.
Lead engineer for the design, development, and troubleshooting of real-
time shuttle simulation flight instrument display software and offline
display generation software tools.
Converted simulator initialization method from punch card input to a
disk-based method using a Curses graphical interface. This saved
laboratory space and time by not re-punching old and damaged cards. It
also saved maintenance costs on card-punch machines and card readers.
