A- EDUCATION

NASBITE Certification Global Business Professional June 2013

University of South Carolina PhD degree Pharmaceutical sciences-pharmacology May 2013

Kansas State University B.S degree Physical Sciences December 2007

Kansas State University _ Pre-pharmacy curriculum May 2008

B. PERSONAL STATEMENT

During my PhD training at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, I investigated several

potassium ion (K+) channels as well as beta3 adrenergic receptors in human bladder and demonstrated that

these proteins could be promising drug targets for overactive bladder treatment. My work has led to several

publications (see list of publications below) and has contributed to make our research team, the first research

group in the U.S. to identify and characterize K+ channels in the human bladder. I was first author of a paper

that applied for the first time, qPCR techniques to identify K+ channels expression in enzymatically isolated

detrusor smooth muscle cells, therefore providing direct molecular evidence for K+ channels in the human

bladder (Afeli et al., 2012). I presented numerous seminars and posters in my department as well as at national

conferences and was awarded several prizes (see list of awards below).

As a PhD candidate, I also received business training from the South Carolina Small Business Development

Center (SCSBDC) and the National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators (NASBITE)

and became certified as a Global Business Professional. This certification confirms my knowledge in

international trade and my abilities to practice global business at the professional level required in today’s

competitive environment. This certification also outlines my proficiency in global business management, global

marketing, supply chain management, and trade finance.

After completion of my PhD degree, I was recruited by Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation for a

postgraduate internship. During my tenure at Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation, I lead the design of

marketing strategies for the African market. I conducted risk assessment analysis, market share analysis, and

drafted a budget for the company operation in Nigeria. I helped improve standard operating procedures (SOP)

for blow-fill-seal (BFS) technology. I worked as quality control (QC) associate (chemistry and microbiology). I

also worked as a quality assurance (QA) associate and became familiar with compliance and regulatory

procedures for CGMP and FDA-requirements. I also acquired knowledge about drug formulation in ISO class 5

clean room.

From 2012-2013, I served as treasurer-elect of the National Black Graduate Student Association (NBGSA), an

organization dedicated to help increase the number of black graduate and professional students in higher

education by providing resources that will enhance the likelihood of their academic and career success.

In July 2013, I founded AFELI PHARMACEUTICALS LLC, a startup pharmaceutical Supply Chain Company

aiming to address the unmet needs for consistent delivery of healthcare products throughout the African

continent. We help U.S. manufacturers increase their yearly product sale through product launch, advertising,

and marketing campaign in Africa.

My strong background in pharmaceutical research, my business management skills, my leadership aptitudes,

and my proficiency in both French and English make me a valuable candidate to fill the current position.
