PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Southland Industries, Garden Grove, CA
January 2014 - April 2014
Professional Mechanical Engineer and Senior Design Engineer
(Temporary Assignment)
* Lead engineering and project management efforts in the design, selection,
and construction of a new 4800-ton chilled water plant. System included
new cooling water farm, pipe stanchion support system, water chillers,
primary and secondary chilled water piping systems, and automated controls.
General Dynamics, Scottsdale, AZ -Military Communications
April 2010 - December 2013
Professional Mechanical Engineer and Plant Registrant
* Provided professional engineering, design, drafting, to replace a 105,000
CFM air handling unit supporting a testing and office environment. Plans
included demolition and installation of new unit, pluming and natural gas
supply with calculations, equipment schedules, and material specifications.
* Developed and implemented mechanical plans, policies and procedures for a
new satellite communications laboratory supporting NASA that included
computer room air handling units, chilled water pumping, and piping. Wrote
bid specifications, and material specifications. Oversaw testing of all
new mechanical and electrical distribution equipment and controls.
Stantec, Phoenix, AZ - Engineering and Consulting Firm
Jan. 2008 - Sept. 2009
Professional Mechanical Engineer for the entire Phoenix Office
* Provided mechanical design and peer review services for the Patient Tower
Expansion project at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson.
Mechanical systems were water chiller, air handling, chilled water piping,
and ductwork design. Plumbing design included potable water and sewer
design, healthcare gas and vacuum piping, and clean dry compressed air
piping. Fire protection design included wet-pipe sprinkler systems, foam-
water systems, and electrical centrifugal fire pumps.
* Developed and implemented a site facilities master plan at Luke AFB which
detailed central plant, building layout, utility requirements, and future
plans for testing requirements. Developed central plant layout showing all
mechanical and electrical equipment supporting such expansion plans.
Proposed site plans were approved by Luke AFB general staff
* Developed and stamped construction drawings, specifications, and
calculations for a radar approach facility (RAPCON) at Luke AFB within
2 weeks of schedule and 12% under planned budget. Systems included air
conditioning load estimating, ductwork design, water chiller layout,
chilled water piping design, and plumbing waste and water distribution
systems.
Honeywell, Tempe, AZ - Manufacturer of Aerospace Products
Jul 1985 - Apr. 2007
Project Manager and Plant Engineer for entire 1M Square Foot Site
* Lead engineering and project management efforts in the design, selection,
and construction of a new 3500-ton chilled water plant within 4% of a $3.4M
planned budget. System included new water chillers, primary and secondary
chilled water piping systems, and automated controls.
* Lead engineering project work and designed mechanical plans supporting a
Tier III, 38,000 square foot computer data center within 6% of a $5.85M
planned budget. Supervised installation of all electrical switch-gear,
generators, uninterruptible power supply modules, battery stations, water
chillers, air handling units, water pumping systems, and fire protection
systems.
* Designed a new 300 and 3000 psig compressed air system in the central plant
for production and laboratory testing. Prepared engineering calculations
and detailed construction drawings, wrote appropriation requests and
purchase orders, reviewed equipment and construction bids, approved
constructor supplied shop drawings and submittals, oversaw successful start-
up of all process equipment.
* Provided mechanical engineering design to construct a new 100 class clean
room which assembled and tested control valves systems used on Space
Station Freedom. Verified all construction start-up and final
certifications were within Federal Standard 209-D specifications required
by NASA.
* Designed high-pressure valve test laboratory required by the U.S.
military's Joint Strike Fighter program. All design was performed per the
ASME Boiler and Pressure code, Section VIII, Div. II, the ASME Process
Piping code, section B31.3, and the National Board Inspection Code, ANSI/NB-
23.
* Designed and provided project management to replace the existing site wide
natural gas piping distribution system. Original corroded underground steel
pipe was replaced with 2,800 feet of PE 2406 polyethylene pipe within 5% of
planned budget. New gas line installation conformed to all federal pipeline
safety regulations and the requirements of the Arizona Corporation
Commission.
* Developed manufacturing, production, and testing schedules which
reduced site electrical usage from 80,000,000 KWh to 68,000,000 KWh
for three years. This was a 15% annual reduction in electrical power
usage and equated to $4.1M dollars of cost savings over three years.
* Designed water reclamation system that reused treated effluent waste water
from a waste water treatment facility and recycles water back up to
existing fume scrubbers for pollution control. Measured water savings were
7,600 gallons per day which equates to 2,774,000 gallons per year of water
savings.
