EXPERIENCE

Protection and Control Design Engineer, General Electric & American Electric Power February 2014-Present

• Revising one-line, schematics, wiring, elementary drawings for green and brown field substation’s RTU,

Telecom, Metering Panels projects as per the scope using MicroStation

• Developing Sizing Calculations such as Battery Sizing, Conduit and Cable Sizing, Voltage Drop

Calculations

• Developing the Bill of Materials (BOM) for Projects

Intern, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), India May-August 2011

• Developed a solid understanding of three phase power generation, transmission and distribution

processes

• Analyzed complex systems involved in the thermal power plant like power evacuation systems

• Identified the major energy loss in the power plant and worked on solutions to eliminate the losses by

increasing the efficiency

PROJECTS

Coordination of Relays Spring 2013

• Calculated line, load parameters of a 5-Bus system and selected current transformers for buses

• Developed positive, negative and zero sequence diagrams and calculated 3-phase fault currents

• Performed selection and coordination of 50/51 overcurrent relays at different buses using time-current

characteristics, checked for dependability and verified calculations with SEL Relay 311L

Symmetrical Components Spring 2013

• Developed zero, negative and positive sequence diagrams of a 3-bus power system

• Determined thevenin equivalent of each sequence network viewed from the fault bus

• Calculated sub transient fault currents during all types of faults at specified bus and verified calculations

using Power World Simulator

• Performed lab experiments on symmetrical components with resistive, inductive and capacitive loads in

no-load, matching and short circuit modes

Low Cost Design of an Electrical Distribution Area Spring 2013

• Performed selection of equipment such as cable sizing, transformers and capacitors for loads and a

substation

• Implemented One-line and diagrams and simulated using Power World Simulator and ETAP

• Prepared load flow, line and voltage drop calculations

• Performed contingency, short circuit and cost analyses of entire system with 0.85 and 0.95 power factors

and identified the best cost solution

• Worked with the National Electric Code(NEC)

Design of Micro-grid using Distributed Energy Sources Spring 2013

• Determined the lowest cost design for University at Buffalo(UB) for construction of new buses and

transformers to ensure that new Micro-grid system was stable whether UB was islanded or connected

• Incorporated solar, wind, fuel cells and batteries into the design

• Performed short circuit fault and cost analyses using Power World Simulator and ETAP

• Implemented interconnection of micro-grid and utility systems

Transient Stability Analysis of a 5-Bus system Fall 2012

• Designed and simulated a 5-Bus Network using Simulink and Power World Simulator

• Analyzed the system stability under fault conditions and observed the changes in the governor and

exciter control systems during faults
