A chemical engineer working as a project manager and process engineer on
design and production capital projects. Well organized with attention to
detail leading cross functional teams on new installations or upgrades of
equipment or systems. Strong work ethic leading capital projects that were
completed on schedule and under budget with satisfied stakeholders.
Mentored entry level engineers and students from CSU, CWRI and University
of Akron.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Boehringer Ingelheim, Ben Venue Laboratories, Inc., Bedford, OH, FDA cGMP
compliant, www.benvenue.com,
in top 20 pharmaceutical companies globally with annual revenues of $17B
Senior Project Engineer, Process and Facilities Engineering Department,
2002 - 2013
Managed multiple projects performing process engineering design,
specification, procurement, construction, commissioning, and training.
Approved contractor time sheets, calculations, drawings, and regulatory
documents. Projects were production, utility, environmental, health, or
safety oriented. Projects were done at a 4 factory and a pilot plant
campus with Facility Maintenance Dept. Projects followed the TrackWise
change management system.
. Designed, procured, constructed, and commissioned a Silver LEED pilot
plant for R&D on schedule and under budget. Facility had HVAC Grade C
HEPA air on 2 formulation suites with pressure vessels, sterile fill
suite with vial filler, freeze dryer suite, and cleaning suite.
Followed 5S + safety process layout. ($2M TIC)
. Project engineer that generated specifications, procured equipment,
approved construction drawings, and commissioned systems for Phase IV
new facility with 2 formulation rooms, 2 sterile fill vial lines,
equipment prep, component prep, WFI & clean steam generation, HVAC
systems, and utilities. (170k sq.ft, $90M TIC)
. Developed, installed, and validated 2 new liquid cryogenic nitrogen
storage vessels with vaporization and gas distribution systems for 4
factories and pilot plant to double sterile injectable vial filling
capacity of chemotherapy parenteral drugs. Lead facilitator on cross
functional team FMEA of systems. ($2M project)
. Designed, installed, and commissioned a cold and hot water and energy
recovery system for 2 factories with Facility Maintenance Standard
Operating Procedures and training. Each system saved $57k annually in
water consumption, heating, and chemical treatment.
URS Corporation, Cleveland, OH, ISO9000, www.urs.com, Ranked 248 in Fortune
500, annual revenues of $11B
Supervisory Process Engineer, Process Engineering Department 1981 - 2002
Project engineer on design projects leading architectural, automation, CAD,
civil, structural, electrical, mechanical piping, process engineers and
technicians. Approved time sheets, calculations, drawings, and performed
annual performance review of project reports. Developed process flow
diagrams with material and energy balances simulated on ChemCAD software.
Generated piping and instrumentation diagrams with automation control loops
and equipment specifications. Performed field construction checkouts and
startups.
. Developed Siemens Simatic Batch Process Control System (PCS7) in St.
Louis, MO to replace Allen Bradley system for application in Anheuser
Busch brewing and fermentation environments. Performed successful
commissioning, startups and training at Columbus, OH and Fort Collins,
CO breweries. ($120M TIC each)
. Design-build automated micro-pilot plant with three continuous flow
reactors and two continuous stirred tank reactors with product
separation, collection, and Gas Chromatography analysis for catalytic
conversion of tar sands to petrol fuel product for CANMET. Developed
new 50 mL reactor with catalytic spinning basket.
. Designed 11 tank chemical treatment process for Boeing Wing and Spar
facility in Frederickson, WA for electrocoat processing 110 foot long
aluminum wing spar for Boeing 747 aircraft. ($105M new factory)
. Supervised 17 multidiscipline engineers and technicians on
chlorosilane distillation automated unit during design and
construction phases for Hemlock Semiconductor, Midland, MI. ($25M
TIC)
