Professional Experience
Elster Meter Services. (Division of American Meter) (2007 - 2013)
Director of Operations
On site director responsible for the Cartersville, GA facility. Provided
direction to 100+ exempt, non-exempt and hourly employees, performing
diaphragm and rotary gas meter refurbishing, AMR Programming and meter
assembly.
Responsible and accountable for all plant key performance indicators for
the Cartersville facility, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, SAP
KANBAN, International and domestic sales and distribution, managing the
internal and external supply chain and morale. These responsibilities
involved managing manufacturing operations, warehousing, sales and
distribution, maintenance, customer relations and reporting key metrics to
the president. Performed financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting for
the Cartersville Facility.
Selected Supply Chain and Lean Six Sigma Contributions:
o Created a safety culture which resulted in no lost time accidents in
the last year
o Increased revenues by 242% in the last 5 years.

o Led the effort to train employees in Lean, 6S, Kanban and ISO18001
(Safety).
o Managed the move to a new facility which included overseeing the
design and all contractors involved. This facility tripled the output
of the previous facility and improved the process flow. The move was
performed without disruption to customer orders or expected revenues.
o Led the effort to become successfully ISO-9001-2000 certified. Became
recertified to ISO-9001-2008 three years later. Zero non-conformances
from external audits for the last 3 years.
o Designed, programmed and installed an Access based container management
system for improved warehouse management.
o Designed a data collection process in concert with existing plant systems
and SAP to allow for more accurate and efficient production reporting.
o Designed a quality check system that was integrated into the packaging
process. This system virtually eliminated data errors for meter, AMR
parameters and customer identification.
Hanesbrands Inc. (formerly Sara Lee Hosiery) (1992 - 2007)
Plant Production Operations Manager
Provided direction to 200+ exempt, non-exempt and hourly employees, dyeing,
finishing and packaging over $100 million of L'eggs brand hosiery,
annually.
Managed all plant dyeing, finishing and packaging operations including
plant scheduling supply chain management and P&L for manufacturing. This
included managing separate warehousing and mail order processing along with
24 different types of packaging operations. Performed financial analysis,
budgeting and forecasting for the manufacturing operation. Consistently
exceeded all customer fulfillment, financial, inventory, quality and safety
goals. Utilized SAP MRP along with in-plant WMS systems to plan and
execute operations following Lean guidelines to minimize inventories and
optimize added value.
Selected Supply Chain and Lean Six Sigma Contributions:
o Developed Finite Scheduling software to work with SAP and plant systems
data in order to prioritize work flow on a daily basis. Installed
division wide to all packaging and distribution facilities. Credited
with improving order fulfillment from 90% to 99%.
o Managed the implementation of Lean, ISO 9000-2001 and WRAP (Worldwide
Responsible Apparel Preparation) initiatives.
SAP / Dye Manager
Directed operations in the Florence and Rockingham Dye Department. SAP
coordinator for the Rockingham Facility.
Oversaw and directed the 24 hour, 7 day operations of dyeing. Prioritized
activities to maximize staff productivity and meet plant metrics and
company objectives. Worked closely with Supervisors and Team Leaders to
implement TQM, Diversity and process improvements along with meeting
downstream product requirements. Collaborated with Product Development and
manufactured new products, approximately 300 new products per year. New
process improvements included working with DuPont developing their Infinity
process for increased dye exhaustion, working with the Intera group on a
wicking product and working with Ciba on carbolic acid PH reduction.
Selected Plant Engineering Contributions:
o Conceived, designed and received capital ($1MM)) for the installation of
the "Winchester Process", which improved dye exhaustion while improving
dye shade consistency. Annual realized savings averaged $.5MM.
o Oversaw the construction of two complete moves of all dyeing equipment to
another facility. Included new and used equipment installation along
with site preparation and training of new personnel.
American Environmental Products (formerly Cellin Manufacturing) (1991 -
1992)
Project Manager and Plant Engineer
Project manager for the building of a mulch, fertilizer & seed packaging
plant for the entire Scotts Patchmaster product line.
Directed maintenance and contract construction personnel. Also responsible
for improving the mulch hammer mill lines along with the cellulose
insulation line, using an innovative piece of equipment called a
"Fiberizer" to increase bulk in the fiber.
Selected Contributions:
o Designed the new Patchmaster plant to be flexible enough to allow for
package sizes ranging from 1 to 50 pounds on the same assembly line
($3MM). This reduced capital expenditures by over 50%.
o Developed a new process that reduced seed destruction loss in the
packaging process, thus increasing germination and improved customer
satisfaction.
Stowe Woodward Company (Division of British Tire and Rubber Corporation)
(1989 - 1991)
Plant Superintendent
Directed production operations for this 2 shift rubber, epoxy and
polyurethane roll covering plant which serviced paper mills. This was a
"make to order" union shop organized by the Teamsters.
Selected Contributions:
o Brought customer service levels from 65% to 98% on-time in less than 6
months.
o Created a customer oriented culture which improved quality and sales.
Polyurethane Process Engineer
Designed and worked on projects related to polyurethane roll covers.
Selected Contributions:
o Site engineer for the building of the polyurethane vertical molding
operation. Process improvement and plant expansion project that improved
roll covering durability and quality ($25MM).
o Designed and built heat treating devices for epoxy and polyurethane
curing. Some of these devices included autoclaves, large ovens and
automatic heat lamps.
