Environmental Health & Safety Manager

2011 - 2013

. Responsible for all site environmental, health, and safety management

related to the construction of the new Lackland AFB Ambulatory Care

Center hospital. The project value is about 85 million dollars and the

owner is USACE representing the U.S Air Force. This project received

the Corp of Engineers annual safety award for Mega Projects for 2012.

. I was instrumental in developing a good relationship with all

subcontractors regarding our safety philosophy.

Area Safety Manager

2005 - 2011

. Responsible for safety training and site audits for all construction

sites in Texas, Arkansas and Mexico

. Area site construction includes Federal, State and Commercial

contracts

. Assisted with company plan to reduce recordables to zero and we were

successful

. Developed and implemented Behavioral Based and Family Safety Programs

. Developed and administered a non-subscriber program for work related

injuries. This process was developed and put into place in 1991 to

replace workers' compensation. All aspects of injury claims were

managed in-house by me. Since the beginning of the self-administered

program the Company realized an annual cost reduction of over $1.5

million annually.

. Reduced cumulative trauma disorders by 75%. This was accomplished by

applying ergonomic principles to workstation design for factory

personnel and employee education for computer users. Costs were

relatively low and the results very positive.

. Developed and administered all compliance programs including: Blood

Borne Pathogens, Industrial Lift Trucks, Hearing Conservation, Hazard

Communication, Internal Disaster Plan, Lockout/Tagout, Spill Response

Team, Confined Space Entry, Drug and Alcohol Program and other

programs as identified to create a safe work environment.

. Created Emergency Response Team for immediate action for any medical

emergency.

. Set up a joint Union / Management safety committee and organized

department safety leaders and supervisors to conduct monthly safety

meetings and area audits.

. Managed company nurse and medical clinic along with OSHA recordkeeping

. Awarded the 1994 "Eagle Award" for saving the Company in excess of $5

million in workers' compensation claims.
