EXPERIENCE
Tommie Copper Mount Kisco, NY September 2013 – December 2013
• Tommie Copper is an athletic apparel company that is experiencing explosive
growth since its inception in 2011. My role was to develop Excel\Access VBA
based applications to streamline manual tasks.
Wrote code for Media Department to summarize daily reports for
media expenditures, accomplishing a 3 hour manual task in seconds.
Streamlined an Excel workbook for the Production Department to
project product sales with user defined assumptions and to use those
projections to determine when to order and produce new inventory.
The key tool is a custom user form.
The Customer Relations Department needed a reliable way to manage
returns and exchanges. My application used interactive in-cell
dropdowns and retrieval of customer data from the database to produce
requests from the inventory center. The automated system eliminated a
manual system that produced nearly 30% errors.
Diageo Corporation Norwalk, CT May 2013 – July 2013
• Wrote an Excel application to reconcile sales data from two different databases.
The user had a custom form to download both sets of data. The data was checked,
using a VBA routine to ensure its integrity and the resulting data was used as the
source for a pivot table. VBA code was used to customize the pivot table and
visually highlight the data differences between the databases. The workbooks
were distributed to field office for review.
CitiBank NY, NY September 2012 – April 2013
• Excel/Access – Lead developer of an Access database used to automate the
organization of data from business units, worldwide, for the bank’s CCAR
submission to the Fed. The application was heavily dependent on VBA coding
and Access macros to manipulate the Excel workbooks that the business units
submit. The data were analyzed with Excel pivot tables and linked via ODBC
connection to tables and queries in the database. There was also a data mapping
capability to map input data to the required form of the output template.
J P Morgan NY, NY
(Sempra Energy Trading, Stamford, CT prior to 7/2010) June 2000 – July 2011
Credit Department
• Margin calculation – Developed a major Excel application to calculate daily
margin requirements. It extracted counterparty exposure from an Oracle database
and calculated corresponding margin requirement. The application provided
custom tools and report-writing features to provide the credit analyst the ability to
make necessary margin calls. For five years it was the sole tool that Credit used
to support margin activity.
Accounting Department
• Futures Hedging – Wrote VBA code to match Gasoil futures hedges
against physical oil positions. The tool provided regulatory compliance to ensure
mark-to-market accounting treatment for the physical positions and saved
millions of dollars in P&L.
• Access Database – Automated an Access database application that tracked
legal compliance by line of business. Created a user interface with buttons to
perform each task - import over two million records from multiple Excel
spreadsheets into the database, execute SQL to validate data integrity and then
determine whether legal action was necessary and wrote corresponding reports.
The process, run weekly, saved half a day’s work.
Trading
• Write and support custom trader Excel applications that analyze option
pricing, calculate expected profit/loss and enter/retrieve trades from an Oracle
database.
• Update trader spreadsheets with real-time Reuters feeds to highlight
necessary actions for current market conditions.
Treasury Department
• Credit Line Utilization – Created an Excel application that analyzes the
use of the various credit lines either by the issuing bank or by Sempra. The data are
drawn from an Oracle database and pulled into a series of pivot tables that are
manipulated by the VBA code.
Independent Consultant developed computer applications 1994 - 2000
A small sample of clients includes:
• Goldman Sachs & Company – Worked on the team to install Office 2000
operating system and ensure that VBA macros writing for Excel, Access and
Word would operate properly.

proper hedge strategy for equity trading positions.
• Insurance Services Offices – Automated a report-writing procedure by
consolidating data from network files.
