Veris Manufacturing, Anaheim, CA, Jan 2009 to July 2010
Director, Materials/Operations, Veris is the leading electronic contract
manufacturer in Orange County, specializing in PCBA, Cable/Harness and
complex box build. I managed all aspects of U.S. and low cost region
manufacturing sites to maximize growth and productivity of this $20M
electronics contract manufacturer, ensuring all goals and objectives were
met.
* Directed all operations, supply chain, purchasing and logistics.
* Increased year over year sales by 60% for Mexico division and improved
on time deliveries from 78% to 93%.
* Implemented inventory reduction strategies to reduce liability and
raise accuracy from 66% to 97% by way of JIT & cycle count.
Newport Corporation, Irvine, CA, Jan 1996 to Jan 2009
Director, Global Strategic Sourcing & Supply Chain Development (2002-2009)
Newport Corp. is the world leader in laser technology and components,
instrumentation and optics.
* Established global supply chain strategy through a complete study and
rationalization of all Newport manufacturing sites. Consideration was
given to off-shoring and outsourcing non core competency products and
activities through inter-division transfer, low cost region
manufacturing and corporate oversight.
* Lead sourcing and procurement teams during development of joint
venture flow cytometer with Becton Dickenson. Sourcing activities
included precision machined components, electronics, injection
moldings, plastics, optics and lasers. Project was brought to market
on time and under budget.
* Developed and implemented company-wide supply chain management mission
and strategy focused on commodity spend consolidation for key
strategic commodities, resulting in $4.2M in direct material savings.
* Directed cross functional teams to identify and communicate key
performance metrics for accountability, measuring critical business
elements that drive internal and external cost factors.
* Developed comprehensive spend analysis for all corporate purchasing.
* Collaborated with Division GMs to develop and implement manufacturing
strategies including comprehensive analysis of strategic make/buy
decisions.
* Designed and negotiated supply contracts for key commodities, with
stringent requirements for cost & cycle time reduction, quality, and
responsiveness.
* Developed and implemented processes, systems, and tools to improve
supply chain efficiency and transaction accuracy. This includes
deployment of Internet based tools to automate routine transactions,
facilitate supplier / customer collaboration, and provide improved
visibility to forecasts, transaction status, and performance metrics.
* Established and managed the consistent deployment of policies,
procedures, and tools to evaluate, approve, develop, and align with
key suppliers. This included development and communication of company-
wide approved suppliers and component parts lists for use in new
product development.
* Managed corporate mandate to reduce inventories and increase turns in
2008. Inventories reduced from $126M to $105M in seven months.
* Led implementation of electronic KANBAN as part of Lean strategy.
Reduced inventory under KANBAN by 50% while increasing turns of
specified product lines from <3 to 12+.
* Implemented collaborative website for Supplier management. Allowed
Suppliers to view, acknowledge and print Purchase orders and shipping
labels. Suppliers were also able to view performance scorecards,
change dates and manage corrective actions.
* Implemented corporate contracts for indirect materials & services
resulting in cost savings of $2.2M.
* Conducted SOX policy and procedure implementation for Procure-to-Pay.
* Directed corporate spend management program which included travel &
expense rebates utilizing corporate card and purchasing card programs
resulting rebates of $1M.
* Led global SAP implementation of Purchasing and Materials modules as
Process Champion and Executive Sponsor.
Sr. Manager, Strategic Materials, (1996 to 2002)
* Guided Purchasing and Supply Chain organizations to achieve
consolidated spend, commodity classification and cost reduction
initiatives. Strategic commodities consisted of machined components,
printed circuit board assemblies, cables/harnesses and optics.
* Rationalized and optimized the company's supply base to improve
procurement efficiency and increase leverage with key suppliers. This
includes proactive development of subcontract manufacturing in low
cost regions.
* Implemented LCCS strategy for printed circuit board assemblies.
Consolidated Corporate spend resulting in $3.5M cost reduction.
* Consolidated and "bundled" machined component families for spend
leverage with approved suppliers resulting in actualized cost
reduction of $12M over five years.
