Gatwick Airport

Following a proactive and productive start at Gatwick Airport, my position

has since developed and I now control H&S for the Airport and surrounding

facilities. The role involves both strategic planning and day-to-day

controls for Health, Safety & EHS systems management; also with the

responsibility for ensuring all the commercial properties, retail outlets,

contractors and third parties meet both legal and Gatwick regulations. The

current CDM development of $1.7 Billion involving a refurbishment of both

terminals, two new multi-storey car parks, demolition and rebuilt of a pier

and a new hotel on site.

My position also has the reasonability to ensure that both COMAH sites that

feed the airport, the inter-terminal shuttle comply with current

legislation and a full audit and inspection programme is in place. I also

Coordinate, develop and maintain positive relationships with local

stakeholders, Health and Safety Executive (HSE), principle contractor,

local authorities, the Environment Agency, CAA and trade unions. To assist

in this role I have 2 direct report whose role is to provide the business

with Fire Strategy and EH&S Coordination and a focal point for the EHS

incident reporting tool and admin. I have since managed to lead Gatwick

Airport through the OHSAS 18001 process to achieve certification, which is

a major achievement for an international airport. My main responsibilities

& accountabilities include the following:

< Develop a strategy to deliver OHSAS 18001 across the airport, reduce

incident rates and build a strong EHS culture

and Risk Assessment system to support certification and deliver trending

data to help identify also reduce incident rates across the airport. My

reduce incident rates through a change management programme that would lead

to improved employee's behaviour. I also provided advice and guidance at

all levels in strategic risk control and H&S performance improvement. I

created and delivered a new H&S Intranet site, which provided a centralised

document and procedure depository. I developed an H&S training matrix that

identify training requirements by role, cost and time frame, this lead to

identifying the correct competencies required for all employees. My role

also required me to deputise for Group H&S Manager during holiday periods.

EHS action plan to drive forward improvements during the recruitment of a

competent person. Also support and provide advice to the business during

compliance issues with the Health and Safety Executive; this was following

the company being issued a prohibition notice and two improvement notices

due to a number of failings across the site. Direct responsibility for all

As the Regional HS&E Manager for BBA Aviation Plc, BBA Aviation is a

multinational aviation company supporting all ground functions of an

airport and aviation manufacturing business. The function of my role was

advise, Audit and strategically support 5 business units across the United

Kingdom, Europe and Asia. Direct responsibility for all aspects of EH&S

Management covering 50 sites ranging from manufacturing sites conducting

repairs, maintenance and overhaul of engines, landing gear and aircraft

ground service support, customer service and refuelling both short and long

haul aircraft. A number of UK sites operate under a PPC permit & also hold

ISO 14001 & 18001 accreditation. I was part of the Group Senior Management

Team & report direct to the Global Director of HS&E. This role was a

complex blend between strategic planning whilst still maintaining an

element of 'hands-on' HS&E work. My main responsibilities &

As sole manager for the Bulk Distribution Centre of Madison Cycles, I was

Health & Safety issues. This was an exciting challenge due to opening a new

warehouse & developing the facility from a bare canvas to holding stock of

around 5 million. I was required to establish all processes & procedures

to run the facility including building a new team & establishing hardware

requirements to manage all inbound/outbound, stock control & stock audit

procedure. The final processes include selection & labelling of orders via

a warehouse management system then distributing throughout the EU. My main
