(Sept 2002 - June 2006)
In September 2002 after I completed the Diploma in Social Work in July 2002
I was successful in obtaining the position of Social Worker on a Long Term
Child Protection Team with Oldham Council. My job including carrying a case
load, working with Children In Need and Child Protection, attending Looked
After Children's reviews and PEP meetings at schools, working with
professionals including teachers, Police, Child Psychologists, residential

Conferences, completing Initial and Core assessments, Section 47 reports,
completing Court Reports and attending Court. During this time I completed
the Post Qualifying Award Level 1 in March 2005 and started studying for
the Accredited Child Care Award in September 2005 that I successfully
completed in March 2007.
Deputy Residential Homes Manager, Oldham Council
((Aug 2001 - Sept 2002)
In August 2001 I succeeded in obtaining the position of Deputy Residential
Homes Manager for Oldham Social Services and worked in two different
Residential Homes. My role required me to complete petty cash returns,
monitor budgets, prepare rotas, complete monthly variation sheets and
manager's report, absence recording and other managerial duties as they
occur. A major aspect of the role was to provide supervision for staff and
carry out NVQ assessment of those staff undertaking NVQ Level 3. Besides
working day shifts I was also on the office duty rota and worked late
shifts and sleeping in shifts on alternate weekends to ensure that a deputy
manager was around as often as possible.
Business Partner/Owner, Abbeys Balti House, Droylsden
(Aug 1995 - July 1997)
Between August 1995 and July 1997, I managed to successfully organise my
time between running an Indian Take-away, continuing with my full time work
as a residential social worker and completing HNC in Social Care without
any conflicts in interest in any of the areas. I was responsible for
customer service, greeting customers, taking telephone orders and
delivering meals and collecting cash.
Residential Social Worker, Oldham Council
(Dec 1992 - Aug 2001)
On 14th December 1992 I started working as a Residential Social Worker for
Oldham Council and have experience of working in various children's homes
throughout the authority. I have experience of working in homes
providing both short and long term care for children and also Preparation
for Independence Unit. The purpose and function of each establishment were
different and as a result I was required to adapt my working approach
depending on where I was based.
My experience includes that of looking after both accommodated children and
that of an outreach worker doing preventative work in the community between
1995 and 1998. The outreach work was with children who had returned home
and also to prevent those possibly being accommodated in to care.
I believe that I have an easy going and caring personality that enables me
to build relationships easily with young people, parents and
colleagues. My approach is based on being open, honest and trustworthy.
Personal experience enables me to relate to the needs of children, parents
and colleagues. I have a very high patience level and understanding that
enables me to have a flexible approach in my work to deal with the various
situations that arise.
I have experience of key working both accommodated and outreach cases and
have been involved in writing review forms, drawing up Care Plans and
attending meetings. An important factor is my ability to work well with
other agencies which is important if the children's needs are to be met.
My communication skills enable me to listen to and support colleagues,
young people and their families. If a colleague has had personal or
professional problems, I have offered them advice and guidance and
supported them in the decision they made. It is important that young people
are listened to by staff who in turn should be heard by their managers and
given support when needed. Regular supervision is very important as without
it morale and motivation are lost.
I am very conscientious regarding my work and always ensure that I am
organised with my workload. This proved vital and important as often I had
been a keyworker to a resident whilst also being an outreach worker to one
or two young people in the community at the same time.
I think my administration skills are very good as I can use a computer to
complete reports, reviews, etc. Daily duties which include writing running
sheets, log book, petty cash, diary appointments, etc. are completed
without any problems. I have also been responsible for ensuring fire drills
and inspections take place on a regular basis along with reporting building
repairs and following up uncompleted jobs.
Over the years, before I became a Deputy Manager, I had assisted various
management teams by completing the petty cash monthly returns,
producing duty rotas and representing the unit at meetings. Due to my
experience I had often been asked by management to guide and support the
new members of staff. I also have experience of sitting on the interview
panel and appointing staff.
I have the ability to work well even when under pressure and proved this to
myself by completing the HNC in Caring Services despite changes that
included the initial closure of the children's home where I was based and
working under various management teams during 1995-1996.
In September 1999 I started studying for the Diploma in Social Work at
Stockport College on a part-time basis which I successfully completed in
July 2002. The theoretical knowledge I gained was a valuable resource I
shared with my colleagues and it raised my raised awareness towards young
people being likely to suffer from oppression, discrimination and
disadvantage in employment, education, welfare benefits, social services,
housing, recreation and most other aspects of their lives.
During my 50 day placement working with the Home Outreach Support Team in
Tameside my knowledge was enhanced as the placement gave me a very valuable
insight into working with people who suffered from mental health problems
and also working with the various agencies including GP's, Consultant
Psychiatrists, Community Mental Health Team and hospital staff. The work
entailed carrying out assessments (verbal, initial and risk), admission and
discharge procedures and one to one sessions at the project and on home
visits. I was also fortunate enough to work with the MIND Social Group,
participate in MIND duty work (one to one counselling, assessment, support,
advice, etc.) and be involved in the Mental Health Forum.
My Final 80 placement was completed working with the Aftercare service
provided by Manchester Foyer and included working with young people aged
between 16-25 years old who are homeless. The work entailed supporting the
young people to access education and accommodation through interviews and
support them in accessing benefits. I also provided extra support to the
homeless young people who have previously been in local authority care.

to be involved with the youth club, running the youth club, doing the

Due to my ability to speak fluent Bengali I was appointed in the role of

members of the Bangladeshi Community. This would be through interpreting
and completing various forms for them to access benefits and services e.g.
DSS, Housing Benefits etc. Some members of the community had children with
disabilities and required my help to access health and educational services
