PROJECTS DONE:
Self Organization of Wireless Sensor Networks using Virtual Grid. (UG
project)
DESCRIPTION:
Wireless Sensor Networks are composed of large number of sensor nodes, which are
limited in resources i.e. memory, energy and computation power. Sensor network lifetime is
directly related to nodes energy. Wireless Sensor nodes are expected to be capable of Self-
organization in an efficient, reliable and continues manner during the lifetime of the network.
Self-organization of wireless Sensor Networks is usually involved in partitioning the network
into connected groups or clusters and is challenging task because of limited bandwidth and
energy resources available in these networks. I propose a new cellular self-organized architecture
for wireless sensor networks that extends the network life by efficiently utilizing nodes energy
and distribute management tasks to support the scalability of management system in a densely
deployed sensor networks. In our solution the network is partitioned into a virtual grid of cells. A
cell manager and a gateway node are chosen in each cell to perform management tasks. Cell
manager and gateway nodes coordinate with each other to perform management with minimum
energy consumption. Here, I use Java language to simulate this project.
An Energy Efficient Prediction Mechanism for Object Tracking Sensor Networks. (PG
project)
DESCRIPTION:
In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing interest in deploying wireless sensor
networks (WSNs) for real-life applications. Object-tracking sensor network (OTSN) based
applications are widely viewed as being among the most interesting applications of WSNs.
OTSN is mainly used to track certain objects in a monitored area and to report their location to
the application’s users. However, OTSNs are well known for their energy consumption when
compared with other WSN applications. I propose a prediction based tracking technique using
sequential patterns (PTSPs) designed to achieve significant reductions in the energy dissipated
by the OTSNs while maintaining acceptable missing rate levels. PTSP is tested against basic
tracking techniques to determine the appropriateness of PTSP under various circumstances. Java
language is used for my project simulation and compared to other basic tracking techniques;
PTSP yields more than 50% of energy consumption. Experimental results have shown that PTSP
outperforms all the other basic tracking techniques and exhibits significant amounts of savings in
terms of the entire network’s energy consumption.
