New Plant Startup

L&W Southtec is a Manufacturer and Supplier of Stampings and Assemblies

• Responsible for setting up Tool room and Engineering Departments, Oversee Tandem Line press installation,

Progressive Press installation, Continuous Improvement, follow up of Insource and New Die and Weld Tooling.

• Other responsibilities include APQP, FMEA, PPAP Submission, QS9000, ISO 14001, Engineering Changes, Die

Trials at Die Shop and Home Plant, Hiring of Skilled Trades, procurement of Tool Room equipment, Safety

Training, Weekly update meetings with Corporate Engineering and Customer interaction.

Engineering Manager, Tower Automotive Clinton Township, MI 1999-2001

New Acquisition (Active to Tower)

Tower Automotive Clinton Plant is a Tier 1 Supplier of Class “A” stampings and finished assemblies to OEM as well as

a limited number of service parts to support the older vehicle market.

• Responsible for starting up and assembling a New Engineering Group: Hiring staff, implementing Procedures, PM

Program in Die Shop and Weld Assembly Areas, Tracking New Die and Assembly Builds.

Direct Report Departments: Tool Room, Engineering (Weld Engineer, Engineering Asst., M.E., Tooling Engineer), Continuous

Improvement and Maintenance.

• Tower Automotive Clinton Plant is a Tier 1 Supplier of Class “A” stampings and finished assemblies to

DaimlerChrysler as well as a limited number of service parts to support the older vehicle market.

• The Clinton Business Unit has the two largest hydraulic press lines in North America, one of them being the largest

press line in the world @3250 Ton and 4000 Ton respectively. The remaining presses range from 1400 Ton to 3000 Ton.

There is also (1) 1500 Ton Mechanical Schuler Transfer Press to accommodate the smaller stampings.

• In the Weld Assembly area, there are over (52) Nachi and ABB robotic (resistance) welders.

Plant Turnaround

Duties included interacting with Corporate Program Managers and Project Engineers on new tooling from design to PPAP.

• 1987 - Journeyman Tool and Die Maker (Die Repair).

• 1988 – Promoted to Working Lead Man responsible for hands on support for die makers, assigning jobs, Press line

Calls and Lining up the incoming Shift Lead Man.

• 1990 – Promoted to Group Leader over Dayshift Tool room Group with the responsibility of ordering materials,

Lead Men on all 3 shifts.

• 1991 – Promoted to Tool room Manager and Production Manger shortly after. Had responsibility of New Model

Follow-up in Japan, tracking recurring die problems, Press Scheduling, coordinating engineering changes, major

die repairs, training, skill charts, kaizen, 5S, develop and implement annual manpower and expense budgets,

monthly report key measurable and an active member on the skilled trades Apprenticeship Committee.
