PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
DEWBERRY ENGINEERS INC., Boston, MA 2007 - 2013 Engineer-EIT
Responsible for providing construction inspection and technical support to Project Managers on a variety of water and wastewater planning, design and construction related assignments. Responsibilities included development of daily progress reports for the construction and rehabilitation of water and wastewater infrastructure systems and facilities, development of construction schedule and cost estimates, assisting with development of contract specifications, and review of shop drawings.
Specific Work Assignments:
• Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, Hultman Aqueduct Rehabilitation Design and Inspection: Provided 6 months of confined-space field inspection services for overseeing the rehabilitation of 13.5 miles of 12-foot diameter concrete pipe. Duties included preparing and filing daily inspection and progress reports, maintaining confined space project updates, and reporting uncommon working conditions to construction manager on a daily basis.
• Veterans Affair Medical Center Sewer System Evaluation Report, Manchester, NH: Coordinated field survey with sub-consultants, flaggers and client to adjust field work location and schedule with existing utility map. Field inspected all survey work and provided on-site assistance as needed to the client and sub-consultants. Updated utility maps with new data and produced drawings indicating work completed. Calculated daily wastewater flow and overflow possibilities. Drafted the technical memorandum for the wastewater system and proposed future updates.
• Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, Gillis Pump Station Upgrades and Northern Intermediate High Pipeline Improvement Services: Assisted in the design and construction of two MWRA projects including upgrades to an existing 120 MGD pump station, and 2,400 feet of new 36-inch transmission main. Prepared CAD drawings and specifications, cost estimates, and design reports. Provided field support for the construction of the 36-inch pipeline installed within MassDOT Highway (Rte.28).
• Boston Water and Sewer Commission Longwood Medical Area Inflow and Infiltration Study: Provided ongoing technical support for this high visibility project to identify sources of I/I entering the BWSC system. Prepared area and zoning maps via ArcGIS. Coordinated with sub-consultants during field work to ensure that work proceeded smoothly, prepared and disseminated Daily Location Reports to all interested stakeholders each day over a period of several months for associated field work including: flow metering, manhole inspection, dye testing and CCTV inspection. Performed analysis on field data recorded in accordance with Mass DEP I/I guidelines to identify cost effective repairs to the BWSC’s sanitary system.
• City of Gloucester, MA Valve Exercise Program/Uni-Directional Water System Flushing Plan: Assisted in developing and implementing a system-wide program to locate, document and operate approximately 1,200 valves within the City’s water system. GPS equipment was used to
physically locate each valve and hydrant to create a GIS water layer using ESRI ArcGIS 9.0 which was integrated into the City’s existing GIS program. Prepared AutoCAD-based maps and figures along with data sheets for a City-wide uni-directional flushing plan. The water system was divided into 12 separate flushing areas, with specific maps and data sheets developed for each area.
• Town of Southbridge, MA Water System Model Update/Analysis: Provided support in updating the Town’s existing water distribution system hydraulic model to incorporate recent system improvements. Conducted computer runs under various scenarios to identify system deficiencies and to evaluate necessary improvements. Prepared sections and figures for the Final Water System Model Report.
• Bristol County Water Authority, Raw Water Transmission Main and Pump Station: Assisted in the design of approximately seven miles of new 16-inch water main that extended through the communities of Rehoboth and Swansea, MA, and Warren, RI, and the design of a new 3 MGD booster pump station. Prepared CAD-based design drawings and technical specifications, conducted site visits for preparing Notice of Intent and verifying existing site conditions. The project included three separate contracts.
• Essex Avenue (Rte. 133) Water Main, Gloucester, MA: Provided design and construction management support for approximately 4,500 feet of new 20-inch ductile iron water main including hydrants, gate valves, and new services within State Highway. Prepared CAD drawings and specifications, cost estimates, reviewed shop drawings, maintained construction related files, and prepared Record Drawings.
• Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) Inflow Study for Interceptor and Local Sewers, North Providence RI: Assisted smoke testing for approximate 500,000 linear feet of sewer pipe to identify actual and potential sources of inflow to the sanitary sewer system and arranged public notification/awareness program regarding the smoke testing activities. Prepared graph, table, and data analysis for the final report which provided a quantification of the impact of actual and potential inflow sources identified, and recommendations for mitigation of those sources.
