Curriculum Vitae

A personal and professional profile …

Wendy Chalmers

Background

I have a strong background in instructional design, project management and the integration of e Learning

technologies into education within a tertiary setting along with the professional qualifications to give me

credibility. I graduated in 2001 with honours in a Bachelor of Education majoring in Information

Technologies from the Queensland University of Technology. This degree course was designed specifically

to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills to provide leadership in the integration of technologies

into education at a time when e Learning was in its formative stages. On completion of my degree, I

accepted a position as an Instructional Designer within the Educational Resources Unit of the Teaching

and Educational Development Institute (TEDI) at The University of Queensland. In 2004, I was promoted

within TEDI to the role of Project Manager, Educational Resources. As Project Manager, I managed and

delivered multifaceted flexible learning projects across all of the University’s Faculties, Schools and

campuses – a role that I excelled in and greatly enjoyed. In 2009, it was decided to restructure and

downsize the Educational Resources Unit within TEDI. After playing a key role in the change

management, I accepted a voluntary separation package in order to travel, spend time with family and

realise some personal goals. I have recently returned to Brisbane and I am currently engaged as the

Educational Designer within the University of Queensland Library.

Career Objective

Having made a strong and enduring contribution to the development and management of e Learning

experiences within the tertiary sector, I am naturally keen to continue this work. My objective is to

continually engage with e Learning technologies in a way that is fresh and innovative in a role

commensurate with my qualifications and abilities.

Personality Snapshot

I am a down to earth and approachable person. I have a strong sense of who I am and what I want out of

life, and I have always been prepared to put in whatever effort and creativity is required to achieve results.

My friends describe me as being intuitive and resilient, and these qualities have been to the fore in my

professional as well as personal life. I lead by example and set high standards for a team. I then put in

place the structures to support individuals in achieving success. Although I am easy going and

approachable, I do not hesitate to make tough decisions when the occasion warrants. I have a sense of

humour that breaks down barriers and defuses tension when the pressure is on, and this is a key aspect of

my leadership style. I value honesty and integrity and my reputation for professionalism is important to me.
