WORK HISTORY:
Medical Technologist-Frio Regional Hospital December 2013-CURRENT
Working as a laboratory generalist as an agency Technologist. Perform ALL testing in the
laboratory to include phlebotomy, specimen processing and specimen analysis. ALL laboratory
disciplines required…Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Blood Bank etc. Collect & prepare
samples fpr transport to Reference laboratories i.e. LabCorp. Shits are Friday, Saturday &
Sunday…3rd shift, usually 10PM-6 AM on Friday. Saturday & Sundays are 12-hour shifts 6PM-
6AM.
Medical Technician - SAMMC (formerly BAMC Ft. Sam Houston, TX) Reference Chemistry
Nov. 2001-Nov. 2012
Duties included were serving as floor supervisor/senior trainer in the automated section of
Reference Chemistry. I trained all personnel in the operation and maintenance of the Roche
modular systems. Testing was done on a P-P/P-E and E-170 configuration. Assays included
HgbA1C, G6PDH, cancer antigens, tumor markers, as well as Vitamin B12/Folic Acid,
hormones and chemistry/immunology analytes in serum and urine. Additional duties included
specimen processing, pipette calibration, and preparation of reagents and standards as required.
Performed CAP surveys and monitored quality control for acceptability. In addition, the Roche
standing order was reconfigured… resulting in increased cost effectiveness and elimination of
reagent waste and stockpiling.
Medical Technologist – TexSan Heart Hospital San Antonio, TX
Oct. 2008-Jan. 2011
Primary duties were as the weekend technologist performing all laboratory disciplines to include
phlebotomy with a special emphasis on blood banking. Instrumentation included Beckman-
Coulter for hematology and Immunology and Dade Dimension for Chemistry. Also plated
microbiology specimens and packed specimens to ship to other facilities. Additional duties
included maintaining inventory and coordinating with South Texas Blood and Tissue Center as
demands for units required. Most testing was performed during non-peak shifts, so almost all
procedures required the ability to work unsupervised.
Medical Technologist – Nix Medical Center San Antonio, TX
Oct. 1998-Mar. 2005
Worked as a generalist both part-time & full-time. Worked every section and every shift…
primarily focusing as week-end technologist. Worked many night shifts doing all pre-op blood
banking, chemistry, hematology, coagulation tests. Worked 3rd shift also as the sole laboratory
representative. Duties included phlebotomy for blood cultures, LIS back-up, instrument
maintenance, as well as start-up QC to prepare the lab for day shift.
International Cancer Screening Laboratory San Antonio, TX
Jan. 1998-Sep. 2001
Supervised the STD testing laboratory for ICSL running EIA procedures for Herpes and
Gonorrhea testing. Chlamydia testing was accomplished by dark-field microscopy. The section
included 1 additional tech for set-ups…ALL testing, to include CAP surveys etc. were performed
by myself.
Brooks AFB-Armstrong Laboratory Brooks AFB, Texas
Aug. 1995-Jan 1998
Duties included testing for Rubeola/Rubella antibodies for ALL Air Force personnel. Moved to
the dark-field microscopy section to assist w/screening of Desert Shield Syndrome. Test included
FTA-ABS, Toxoplasma, Epstein-Barr titers etc. Was employed here as a contractor thru Dylantic
Corporation. Left Brooks to accept supervisory position with International Cancer Screening
Laboratories.
Medical Laboratory Specialist/Instructor – US Army (Ft. Carson, CO/ Ft. Sam Houston,
TX/Ft. Ben Harrison IN/Honduras Aug. 1980-Jul. 1995
Served 4 years as a chemistry instructor with special emphasis in laboratory mathematics. Also
served as non-commissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) at Ft. Ben Harrison. Assignment at Ft.
Carson was a field unit, although most of my time was assigned on “special duty” assigned to
Outpatient Lab for phlebotomy and urinalysis.
