Position: Petroleum Supply Specialist (92 Foxtrot)

Last Duty Station: Fort Campbell, Kentucky (A. Co. 563rd Aviation Support Battalion, 159th Aviation
Regiment, 101st Airborne Division)

I attended basic training (Boot Camp) at Ft. Jackson, SC. Then I attended advanced individual training (AIT)
at Ft. Lee, VA. I completed my training in the top one percent of my graduating class for Petroleum Supply

Stanley, South Korea. While stationed in South Korea I took several U.S. Army sponsored classes, for
example: Hazard Communications, Handling or Transporting of Hazardous Materials, and Combat Life
Saver Skill level 1 (Medic). Our mission mainly consisted in support of helicopter re-fueling. About six
months into my deployment to South Korea I was selected to drive for an Air Force three star General. My

and evasive maneuvering. I was awarded the Joint Forces ribbon for outstanding service. After South Korea,

shortly after my arrival in 2004. The unit was slated to support aviation assets while in combat throughout
Iraq from 2005-2006. Most of the time we supported the fueling operations of the U.S. Special Forces in
country. This had us conducting missions while in convoys on numerous highways and roads. We would get
grid coordinates and meet Special Forces Aviation Units for what we call “Hot FARPS”. This simply means
we would re-arm/ re-fuel helicopters while the blades were still turning. As a Corporal, I was in charge of a
small squad, usually consisting of 6-9 soldiers. I was awarded several medals while in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom III. These include the Army Commendation Medal, Iraqi Freedom Ribbon, Overseas Combat
Ribbon, and Combat Action Badge. Reason for leaving the service: I was awarded an Honorable Discharge
for exceptional service.
Duty with the Oklahoma Army National Guard
Dates of service: December 2006 – March 2013
Unit: A. Co. 114th Aviation (Detachment 1) & A. Co. 777th ASB
Duty Stations: Oklahoma City, OK and Okmulgee, Oklahoma
Description of duties performed:
My first duty assignment was with a small aviation unit in Norman, Oklahoma. This unit was a special
detachment augmented through the Governor’s office. On regular drill status it was a search and surveillance
Aviation Company. We had 4 to 5 OH-58 Kiowa Helicopters to support and maintain. My first couple of
years drilling with the company I was a petroleum supply specialist (92 Foxtrot). We handled all re-fueling
of the helicopters, maintained fuel records, maintained all fuels/ petroleum based products, maintained all
hazmat for the facility, and managed our fuel trucks. We supported our companies’ aviation assets plus other
aviation units located in the state of Oklahoma as well. In 2007 I re-classed my job title (MOS) to a
Pneudraulics/Pneumatics Maintenance Technician (15 Hotel). With this change in jobs I was promoted to
Sergeant (E5). Soon after, I was awarded my own squad of soldiers. Depending on our strength in numbers, I
managed seven to ten soldiers. On drill weekends we would perform maintenance checks on the helicopters.
If there were any problems or scheduled maintenance to be done on the hydraulic components, my squad and
I would perform them. In 2008 our company transitioned to another location. We were now going to be
conducting operations out of a hanger located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This hanger was at the Will
Rodgers Air National Guard Base. In order to hold my position as Sergeant I decided to re-enlist for a couple
more years. During the year 2011 my unit went through reorganization within the Oklahoma National Guard.
Most of the unit’s support platoons were being scrapped. I made a transfer into another aviation support
battalion out of Okmulgee, OK. I automatically assumed squad leader position and managed 13 soldiers. We
supported numerous aviation units in the state. While in this unit I developed young soldiers into becoming
the best re-fuelers the state has seen. It was with great pleasure to promote all 13 soldiers to ranks of
Corporal/Specialist (E4) or to Sergeant (E5). Most deployed to Afghanistan to support the aviation efforts of
that war.
In March of 2013, my enlistment was up and I decided to leave the Guard. I had devoted almost 7
years to developing young men and women in many different job roles. On multiple occasions I had been
asked to join the ranks of becoming a Warrant Officer. It was an honor to be asked but not something I
wanted to interject myself into. I loved the time I spent in the Guard and made lifelong friends while there.
The training I received is insurmountable compared to private schooling. I was discharged with a
distinguished Honorable Discharge.
