Partner in a civil defense firm: primary responsibility handling cases involving such matters as

products liability, medical malpractice, asbestos, bad faith actions, sexual harassment, and many

issues pertaining to insurance coverage; extensive trial experience in practice before both state

and federal courts; appellate practice before Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia and

United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; defended various physicians in statewide

class actions re: diet drugs, Rezulin, and Oxycontin; in 1987 defended corporation involved in a

thirty-two million dollar business interruption claim from early stages of discovery through trial

culminating in a defense verdict; and in 2005 defended a complex construction case in a three

week trial resulting in a defense verdict which was subsequently affirmed on appeal. In 2010,

defended corporations in welding fume exposure claims in the circuit courts of WV. I have

defended regional jails, boards of education and other governmental entities throughout the State

of West Virginia. For the past two years, I have accepted Civil Justice Act appointments

representing federal criminal defendants. Also responsible for the management of summer

interns and associate attorneys.
