Southern California Edison; San Clemente, CA
May 2008 - Aug 2013
Health Physicist at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station
. Responsible for radioanalysis of samples and whole-body counts of
personnel using advanced gamma spectroscopy techniques and the
verification of samples sent for off-site 10CFR61 analysis.
. Performed radioactive waste steam analysis and characterization,
including advanced modeling and simulation of waste classification, dose
rate projection, and packaging.
. Served on the Emergency Response Organization in multiple positions
including: Health Physics Leader, Health Physics Advisor and Off-site
Dose Assessor. Responsibilities included issuing Protective Action
Recommendations based upon potential offsite public dose, making
appropriate notifications to federal agencies, and tracking simulated
radiological releases during drills.
. Responsible for implementation of new instrumentation into the Radiation
Protection Program including the initial calibration and procedural
preparation for use by health physics technicians.
o Performed calibration/maintenance of Canberra Fastscan (NaI) &
Accuscan High-Purity Germanium (HPGe) whole-body counters.
o Integrated Canberra Inspector 1000 (LaBr) portable gamma
spectroscopy detector into the Health Physics program
o Integrated Canberra iSolo alpha/beta solid state silicon detector
. Developed and provided training to Health Physics personnel on neutron
interactions, biological effects, dosimetry and instrumentation as the
subject matter expert.
. Dosimetry Specialist responsible for tracking of personnel exposure and
implementation of electronic and OSLD dosimeters of record. Highly
knowledgeable in the internal dosimetry models of ICRP 26, 60 and alpha
contamination modeling.
. Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO) for 2 California Radioactive
Material Licenses (2132-30 & 5792-30) allowing possession of mixed
fission / activation products and special nuclear material.
. Performed self-assessment work to ensure compliance with Nuclear
Regulatory Commission, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, American
Nuclear Insurers, and Nuclear Oversight Board regulations and served as
a primary contact for inquiries during radiological inspections.
. Managed Health Physics Division (70+ employees) Corrective Action
Program using SAP and Action Way systems as the CAPCO for approximately
3 years without any overdue CAP items.
o Performed many Apparent and Direct Cause Evaluations on events such
as personnel contaminations, injuries, and radioactive material
outside of the controlled areas as HP Self-Assessment. Maintained a
100% initial pass rate on all Apparent Cause Evaluations.
o Served as the Trending Coordinator for the Health Physics Division
since 2010.
. Served as the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) trained Human
Performance Advocate since 2010.
