• Ensure that current, valid and appropriate Quality Control materials are available for daily

assessment in the Core Laboratories.

• Assist technologists/technicians and supervisors in handling control values in order to establish

acceptable ranges and other statistical parameters needed for result evaluation.

• Verify that control materials are run in each laboratory and for each test according to departmental

schedules and protocols.

• Ensure that all control result are evaluated and problems corrected prior to patient test result being

released to the health care provider for purposes of diagnosis and treatment.

• Ensure that establish Quality Control evaluation rules are followed according to departmental policy.

• Receive proficiency test materials from New York State Department of Health, the College of

American Pathologist and other agencies, and distribute such materials to the appropriate laboratory

or workstation for analysis.

• Monitor the performance of those tests to ensure timely analysis and reporting.

• Verify result of such test with technologists/technicians to ensure completeness and conformity to

reporting standards.

• Receive all proficiency test correspondence, including result evaluation and critiques from the above

agencies.

• Ensure that evaluations are reviewed by the analysts and supervisors in timely manner, and that

corrective actions for any deficient results are promptly entered and documented.

• Participate in the validation of new procedures/instruments, and the periodic instrument/test

performance assessment required by the department and accrediting agencies.

• Ensure that Standard Operating Procedure Manuals and other relevant materials are properly

maintained and up to date, and are available to the technical staff for review.

• Provide a report of such surveys to the laboratory supervisor, the Pathologist-in-charge, and the

director of the department.

• Prepare statistics and other documents required for submission to and participation in the monthly

departmental Performance Improvement committee meetings, and attend such meeting as required.

• Collaborates in the overall development of the Laboratory operation.

• Evaluate staff competency.

• Conduct lectures for Continuing Education.

• Interview and screen possible applicants.

• Formulates SOP Manual Updates and Revision.
