Work Experience

Freelance Copywriting and Blogging (August 2013-Present)

Freelance Entertainment/Features Writer www.contactmusic.com (January 2013-Present)

I produce features articles, entertainment pieces and opinion posts for a global news website. My articles often feature amongst the most read stories on Google Entertainment UK.

My other current clients include a successful online fashion accessories retailer, an electronic cigarette manufacturer and a dating website, for whom I run business blogs.

I also have a 1400 word feature due to be printed in The Mail on Sunday supplement, YOU magazine, this coming Autumn.

Movement Magazine (December 2013-Present)

I am a Fashion and Lifestyle writer for Movement Magazine, a widely read online and print music, fashion and lifestyle magazine.

Brandwave Marketing, Copywriting and Advertising (September 2013-October 2013)

Just after I finished my Master’s degree I took up a short term contract with Brandwave Marketing, a global marketing agency specialising in sports, outdoors and youth culture. I produced complete original copy for the website of Brandwave’s new PR subdivision, Soundwave, while also working as part of the marketing team on a project to create a DPS which appeared in Men’s Health magazine.

Xtras Online – Blogging, Online Marketing, Social Media and Copywriting (July 2012-August 2013)

While completing my Masters degree I worked as part of the online marketing team at Xtras Accessories, an established high street beauty retailer. As well as being the sole author of the company blog, I also contributed to the social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Bi-monthly I would produce a video blog which featured me discussing and trying products as well as makeup tutorials.

When I began writing the blog in July 2012 readership went up by 68%, according to the SEO team. During my time at the company I also rewrote most of the copy on the Xtras website, including more detailed landing pages and smaller product excerpts.

Deelux Kitchens – Blogging and Copywriting (July 2012-November 2012)

I was in charge of setting up a blog for Deelux, a respected kitchen design company. The company specialises in bespoke yet affordable kitchens and I created a fresh and innovative blog and campaign to make their profile more appealing and gain a following. This was only a temporary project as the company was unsure of which direction to follow with their fairly new web based marketing strategy.

Surgical Innovations Plc. – HR Assistant (July 2011-October 2011)

I completed a summer placement in HR admin at Surgical Innovations, an engineering company specialising in keyhole surgery. In the three and a half months I worked at Surgical Innovations I single-handedly set up an HR database for almost 140 employees. Once I had finished this task I then produced and presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation and lectured small groups on how to use the system. It also gave me the chance to use my computer skills and I am now fully capable of using Octopus HR system.

Wax:On Events – Promotions (September 2009-2010)

Working for such a successful promotional company taught me a lot about basic business skills and the barebones of PR work. In this role I was charged with compiling a weekly guestlist for a club night at a hugely popular nightclub as well as handing out weekly flyers.

Additional Skills

I am very competent with all blogging platforms as well as always maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the digital landscape.

I have had an article published by The Vagenda, an online feminism magazine.

During my Undergraduate Degree I wrote book and film reviews as well as news stories for the Leeds University student newspaper, Leeds Student.

I was chosen at the beginning of the 2010 academic year to take part in the Students as Scholars program as I was picked out as a high performing student. This is a great honour as Leeds University is part of the Russell Group for research and I was able to gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work in a research environment.

I currently tutor A Level Ancient History, with an 100% A grade pass rate.
