“Simulation-Based Optimization Models for Electricity Generation Expansion Planning Problems Considering
Human Health Externalities”
This research presents an approach to solving the generation expansion planning problem that minimizes human
health externalities associated with pollutant emissions from electricity generation. Human health externalities are
quantified by a kriging meta-model, and the generation expansion planning problem is solved by an iterative
simulation-based optimization algorithm.

EXPERIENCE
09/13-Current Principal Management Engineer, The Port Authority of NY & NJ
• Conducted a wide array of management analyses and multiple high priority consulting projects with estimated
annual savings ranging from approximately $200K to $10.5MM per project.
• Performed various data collection efforts including field-based time studies, client and personnel interviews,
sampling of staff workload, and benchmarking efforts to research best practices.
• Collaborated with Port Authority line departments and facilities on various projects related to optimizing
resource allocation and staff utilization, operational planning, assessing organizational structure, and identifying
process improvement opportunities. Annual savings per project range from 2 to 11 FTE.
