Profile

I have been living and working in South East London since 1995, before that I live in North England undertaking a number of different work places in a variety of settings. Most of that time I have been working as a Qualified Mental Health Nurse and Social Worker, as well as at times working behind local bars in Greenwich and Yorkshire. Out side work I do voluntary for a number of HIV / sexual health charities. My other passions are traveling, photography and design. I love going the art galleries, museums and exhibitions both locally and in central London.

Community Mental Health Nurse / Social Worker February 2000 – August 2012

As a CPN/ SW I had a case load of clients with mental health problems and complex social needs. Supporting and maintaining them within the community to enhance their well being. Administering medication, supporting clients around issues regarding benefits / housings / courses / drug alcohol and social activities. Monitoring their mental health and assessing their on going needs. Working along side other departments / organisations / carers and professionals, so to enable them to achieve the best of their abilities within the community. Working in a diverse team of professions, as well as mentoring student nurses. Supporting fellow professionals and working within the current Mental Heath Act structure. Working in diverse multi cultural team and client group in South East London. Part of my roles as CPN / Social worker I was involved in drafting reports for Courts / Emigration and Mental Health Managers Hearing and Tribunals. My details reports enables a number of services users to get leave to remain in the country. Keeping a services user out of prison, while explaining to the judge about Section 25a and my intense after care planning.

Charge Nurse March 1998 – February 2000

I worked within team on an acute admission ward for clients with acute mental mental /social problems. Assessing their needs and implementing treatment care plans, as well as evaluating outcomes. Working along side other professions within the ward team. Being in charge and co-ordinating shifts and managing other staff, administering medication as prescribed. Being involved in ward rounds and writing reports for tribunals / court reports / asylum reports and mental health reviews. Again mentoring student nurses and undertaking supervision for support staff.

Drug Worker September 1996 – February 1998

Wickham Park House was a therapeutic four week detox centre for people with acute drug / alcohol problems. As a drug worker my role was to assess current drug use and other social issues. We as a team detoxed a variety of people from all back grounds, from all illegal and prescribed drugs, over a period of time assessing withdrawals and side effects. Offering one to one support, as well as therapeutic daily groups in a number of different subjects, like HIV / Hep C, risk management, motivation interviewing and relapse indicators. Once the clients had completed a detox we as a team would look at other longer term options. Working closely with social services for funding and women with children or pregnant, to enable clients to get the best from remaining drug free.

Having worked as a CPN / SW for over 25 years, I have spent that past 14 months travelling / undertaking voluntary work for a number of charities, also undertake a number of courses one in peer mentoring and the other in garden design and photography. I also was re-evaluating my career options, looking a areas of work that I feel will challenge my abilities.
