JAMES R. ALLEN
Objective: To continue working in ways that have benefits for others and the community, using my
experience and training in counseling and lessons learned in an eventful life.
Experience: The last year an internship at an agency doing masters level mental health counseling, five
and one half years at Clearfield Job Corps as a substance abuse counselor. Seventeen and one half years
with the Bear River Health Department as a substance abuse counselor. I have another three years
counseling experience and eight years experience in law enforcement, mostly as a criminal investigator,
three and one half of which I was also a Deputy Medical Examiner in Oregon.
Education: A masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University in 2012. A B.
S. degree in Psychology from Weber State University. In 1990 I graduated from the University of Utah’s
certificate program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment. I completed the Utah Department of Health’s
HIV prevention, testing and counseling program in 2004, and the UDVC Basic Domestic Violence
Training in 2011.
Military Service: Two years active duty, 1966-1968, including one tour in Viet Nam.

Licensed Advanced Substance Disorder Counselor, license # 134***-****
Other positions held: Behavioral Counselor for two different residential youth treatment programs. As a
coordinator for an off-campus college program, lead carpenter and brick, block and stone mason. A
substitute school teacher, private investigator, business telephone installation supervisor and installer, as a
logger in the Oregon woods, Insurance sales, animal caretaker for a medical research farm and farm work
growing up.
