SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Strategic Communications Branding Customer Outreach Marketing
Public Affairs/Relations Stakeholder Relations Global Business Analysis
Objective: A professional opportunity to help an organization improve its internal/external communications, brand (and rebrand) its identity and
mission and strengthen its story (successes, accomplishments, achievements).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
International Business and Political Analyst Wikistrat, September 2013-present
• Provide strategic analysis and forecasting on emerging global trends (demographic, cultural, economic, political).
Senior Associate Booz Allen Hamilton, McLean, VA, January 2002–April 2013
• Managed significant pieces of Booz Allen's business helping large (primarily US government) organizations improve their internal/external
communications, market their successes and rebrand their missions and identities. Managed large (multi-million dollar efforts with
hundreds of staff) Booz Allen contracts with the U.S. government - providing financial oversight, ensuring customer satisfaction, managing
staff. Received Booz Allen’s most prestigious award (Values in Practice) in recognition – by my managers, peers and staff – of my
adherence to the firm’s core values.
• Communication planning: Conducted stakeholder analyses to help customers understand the reach and effectiveness of their existing
(internal/external) communication efforts. Developed and executed a methodology for designing interview protocols, interviewing
stakeholders and analyzing results. Used those consumer insights to craft -and implement- communication plans, strategies and marketing
materials (spoken word, print, graphics, video, digital) to improve message delivery and understanding. Developed methodologies to
measure the impact of these communication efforts and incorporated these insights into communication processes and products.
• Branding, message development, marketing, internal communication: Led the effort to rebrand a U.S. government agency after it
consolidated several organizations with legacy cultures. Worked with the newly-formed agency's senior leadership to develop a new
corporate message. Built, led a working group of representatives from the legacy units across the organization to collaborate on crafting
supporting messages. Led design and implementation of communication strategies and products (spoken word, print, graphics, video,
digital) that cascaded these messages across and down through the organization. As a result of the recognized widespread buy-in of this
rebranding effort, my solution became a Booz Allen best practice replicated for other customers.
• Executive communication, speechwriting: Served as primary speechwriter to a U.S. government cabinet-level official, translating his
vision into speeches, journal articles, congressional testimony and materials for the press and general public.
Consultant and Instructor The RAND Corporation, Washington, DC, and Tbilisi, Georgia, 2001
• Helped to establish the first independent non-governmental organization in the Republic of Georgia devoted to international affairs - and
taught U.S. foreign policy to mid-level Georgian government officials.
Senior International Communications Analyst U.S. Defense Department, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) for Policy, The
Pentagon, Washington, DC, July 1997–January 2001
• Ensured that the Secretary of Defense remained on point when communicating official White House international policy goals and
objectives, both across the U.S. government, Congress, foreign governments and the general public.
• Drafted Congressional testimony and press materials that highlighted Defense Department and White House policy successes.
• Represented the Secretary of Defense at international (e.g. NATO) meetings to promote U.S. government foreign policy objectives.
• Worked directly with foreign governments - through both their U.S. embassies and government officials overseas - to negotiate, design,
implement and manage bilateral initiatives intended to foster a more favorable environment for establishing bilateral business relationships,
promoting U.S. exports and strengthening democratic governance in developing countries.
Senior Policy Writer, Communications Department Clinton/Gore ‘96 Reelection Campaign, Washington, DC, May 1995–Nov 1996
• Played key role in drafting all Clinton/Gore '96 campaign materials (position papers, rapid response materials, questionnaires, videos,
press guidance, speaker training for campaign surrogates) on all Clinton Administration's policy accomplishments (domestic and foreign) to
all audiences: (domestic and foreign) press, constituent groups (e.g. ethnic, demographic, regional), corporate and not-for-profit
organizations and the general public.
• Worked closely with pollsters, focus groups and individual constituent leaders to understand what language resonated best for distinct,
segmented voter groups and ensure these consumer insights were weaved into tailored campaign materials.
• Interacted regularly with reporters and journalists to communicate campaign policies.
