President and Project / Construction Manager 1980 – 2013

Served as General Contractor / Project Manager / Construction Manager and primary point of contact

for over 2,500 client accounts from the Central Valley in California to Oregon and the Bay Area to

Reno. Hired and supervised subcontractors and consultants, and obtained appropriate governmental

approvals. Managed a wide range of projects from initial layout to final commissioning, including

purchasing, planning, people management, managing inside and outside sales staff, and overseeing

all fiscal and operational matters.

Responsibilities included: client service, daily business operations, space planning and facilities

redesign / reengineering, real estate transactions, and hiring and supervision; full cycle construction

project management including specifying project objectives and plans, delineation of scope,

budgeting, scheduling, site surveys and engineering, selecting project participants, and at times

securing the property location; maximizing resource efficiency through procurement of labor,

materials and equipment; flawless project execution through proper coordination and control of

planning, design, estimating, building permits, safety compliance, risk management, subcontractors,

contracts and the overall construction process; and developing effective strategies for resolving

conflicts.

Applied construction and real estate knowledge to design floor plans and modification schematics,

and to create real-time constructability solutions and value engineering to keep projects moving and

escalate client ROI.

Accomplishments include:

During tenure, was awarded increasing levels of responsibility commensurate with business

accomplishment including directorships in labor relations, sales and marketing, and real estate /

construction management and senior leadership.

Strategically developed two new divisions for parent company to capture additional business which

was being lost to competitors thereby strengthening our net income.

Created innovative hiring strategy to diversify sales staff and provide equal opportunity, which

resulted in a 50% increase in sales. Helped start the first Business Women’s Club of Modesto and

provided them with mentorship and sponsorship.

Successfully led company from a niche trade into providing construction management services and

ultimately general contractor services. Mentored and trained staff capable of providing high levels of

service in our expanded divisions.

Heinz – Tracy, Ca.

Managed $2 million storage and racking system including custom life safety and fire code compliance.

Foster Farms, Livingston, Ca.

Provided value engineering for multiple capital improvement projects over 30 year time period including

storage facilities, loading docks and an insect control system throughout food processing plant.

Campbell Soup Plant – Modesto, Ca.

Value engineered and constructed storage facilities resulting in $350K savings for client.

Intel – Santa Clara, Ca.

Designed and built 125,000 square feet custom storage facility.

Raycor – Modesto, Ca.

Created strategic space and facilities plan resulting in estimated $20M in current and future savings for

client.

E & J Gallo Winery – Modesto, Ca.

Served as Project and Construction Manager for various $15 to $50 million capital improvement projects

within the winery and ranch operations. Engineered original wine barrel rack storage system that enabled

individual barrel removal reducing labor requirements and product loss expense.

Trivalley – Modesto, Ca.

Renovated 3 million sq. ft. of warehousing space for the world’s largest cannery including, strategic

planning and design, value engineering, pallet racking and working with Honeywell on the design and

implementation of an industrial grade dehumidifier system.

Kelly-Moore Paints – San Carlos, Ca.

Served as Project / Construction Manager and real estate broker for approximately 125 retail locations

Including locating and securing retail stores sites where required, constructing or remodeling the retail

stores and then providing construction maintenance as necessary.

E& J Gallo Winery

Assistant to Vice President, Labor Relations

Responsible for full-cycle HR management and labor relations for 3,500 employees involved in the

winery and ranch operations.

Designed and developed the first computer program to document the advancement and diversity of

ethnic groups throughout all of the Gallo wineries and ranches for the Department of Labor.

Managed office staff of 25 employees including hiring, performance management, training and

development.

Negotiated grievances between winery union and UFW; resolved labor relations cases with both

winery union and UFW.
