I was hired back at S.M.I. for the Davenport Screw Machines:
Set-up, Operate, Tooling, and Maintenance.
After 4 years the Company was sold and so was the bulk of the
Screw Machine Dept. and I split my time between Shop Maintenance,
Shipping/Receiving, and also Welding Dept.:
Shop Maintenance:
Ability to work with High Voltage, Respect all Lock Out Tag Out Safety
Procedures, Diagnose problems, Order or Machine replacement parts
and install
Shipping Dept.:
Pull Finished Goods, Box, Palletize, Weigh, Generate labels, Load and
Unload Trucks, Keep an Inventory of Finished Goods.

Receiving Dept.:
Receive Raw Stock/Material(Usually 12 to 20 foot long and a
multitude of diameters),
Operate 2 Horizontal Band Saws, Size Stock for Chucking Machines

Welding Dept.:

In 1999 S.M.I. started a new dept. called the Special Machines Dept.
and I was chosen as Supervisor. In this dept. we dealt with much larger
projects ranging from Re-building/Re-furbishing existing Machines,
Combining several Machine to form a Production Line, Design or work
with a Designer to develop Machines to produce parts to
Customers Specifications, Sometimes travel outside the shop to
troubleshoot customers’ existing Production Lines and propose fixes,
Production of a variety of Weldments and Fixtures.
Special Machines Dept.,:
Calculate Stock/Material requirements and Labor hours to bid job
Serve as a liaison between Management and the Customer
Produce Prints to circulate through the Shop
Coordinate between Departments to get parts to final assemble
Supervise up to 5 men in final assemble
Assemble, Troubleshoot, and Prove Machines to Customers satisfaction
Disassembly(if needed), Shipping, and Installation at Customers Facility

An 15,000 # overhead crane which encompassed the entire building
A large area for stock/material

1 Hydro-Max turntable, used for further 2nd. operation work
1 CNC Mill
My responsibilities were, but not limited to:
Ordering stock/material, machine tooling, machine parts
Scheduling jobs in accordance with customer's delivery dates
Laying out job boxes consisting of:
Machine tooling
Machine cams and attachments
Prints
Inspection equipment
Set-up and maintenance of machines
Supervision of 12 operators over 2 shifts
Attend production and scheduling meetings
Inventory of stock/material and parts produced
Inspection:
1st inspection is the responsibility of the operator
2nd inspection was my responsibility
3rd inspection was the responsibility of Quality Control

Lathes, Mills, Drilling Machines, Tapping Machine,
Thread Rollers, I.D. Grinders, O.D. Grinders,
Blanchard Grinders, Surface Grinders, Hardinges, Presses,
Deburr Machines, Vibrators, and some experience of
C.N.C. Lathes and Mills as an Operator.
Tooling Technology:
Grind and Re-Grind Drill Bits, End Mills, Circular Tools, Stick Tools,
Troubleshoot Tooling, Design, and Grind Tooling for new parts.
