Dairy and Farm Management Experience

Horizon Organic Dairy, Paul, Idaho 3/2006-Present

Dairy Manager / Quality Assurance (1/2007 – Present)

• Managed 4500 lactating cows, 700 dry cows and approximately 3000 replacement heifers.

• Transitioned 2500 of the 4500 lactating cows into an additional dairy barn.

• Managed the two dairy facilities simultaneously for several months until the animals at the

old facility were relocated out of state.

• Currently manage 2500 lactating cows, approximately 400 dry cows, and 2100

replacement heifers ranging in age from birth to 24 months.

• Initiated the Five S program into the management practices at the dairy.

• Manage multiple budgets and leases for the dairy.

• Have overseen several large projects and purchases for the dairy.

• Manage approximately 4300 acres of pasture and the grazing of 4400 animals starting

from 6 months of age and older.

• Manage forty-six employees in the following areas: Milking Parlor / Herd Health,

Pasture/Grazing, Feeding, Quality / Laboratory, Organic Compliance, and Cleaning.

• Oversee the processing of 4.2 million pounds of milk per month including product quality

through laboratory microbiology testing.

• Handle product complaints, audits, state and kosher inspections, and shipments.

• Have good computer skills and work with several software programs such as MS Office,

MS Excel, DHI Plus, Dairy Plan, Feed watch, and Access software.

Organic Compliance Manager 1/2007 – 1/2011

• Implemented effective policies and protocols to ensure compliance with Organic

regulations.

• Maintained organic certification documentation for approximately 9000 dairy cattle and

approximately 9000 acres of farm and pasture ground.

• Worked with Holistic Management International to maximize and improve the grazing

program in compliance with organic regulations. Oversaw a crew of twelve employees to manage

grazing on several thousand acres of pasture using grazing maps, charts, animal logs, and a

grazing database.

Assistant Farm Manager 3/2006 – 1/2007

• Oversaw the irrigation for 5000 acres of transition/organic crop ground including pivot

maintenance and repair.

• Managed seventeen employees over irrigation, baling, and heifer replacement housing.

• Operated tractors, industrial loaders, implements, and trucks, and performed maintenance

and repairs on farm equipment.

• Consulted with the farm manager on all seed selection, crop planting, and crop rotation.

• Planted and maintained adequate pasture for 8000 milking cows, dry cows, and heifer

replacements.
