TECHNICAL SKILL SET

! Programming Languages: C, Fortran, CUDA Fortran

! Modeling tools : NX, Pro-E

! Meshing tools : Gridgen

! Analysis tools : ANSYS-Fluent, ANSYS-CFX,

! Other software packages : Tecplot, MATLAB, MS Office

! Operating Systems : Linux/Unix, Windows

EXPERIENCE

! Master’s Thesis, Virginia Tech High Performance CFD Lab (Aug 2012 – present)

Project Title: Wall-Modeled Large Eddy Simulation of turbulent flow over a wall-mounted hump

• Large Eddy simulation (LES) technique employed for aerodynamic analysis of turbulent flow over a

wall-mounted hump

• Investigated wall-modeling, a technique that makes large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flow

computationally cost efficient for practical industrial applications

• Validation of the wall modeling capability of the in-house CFD solver GenIDLEST

! Intern, Thermax India Ltd, Pune, India (January 2012 - June 2012)

(A USD 1.05 Billion Company)

Department: Product development, Cooling & Heating services division

Project Title: Design and development of High Pressure Condensate Recovery System (HPCRS)

• Completed the design, CAD modeling and prototype testing of the Thermax Automatic Pump trap

• Carried out the feasibility calculations of replacing a conventional steam recovery system with

HPCRS through thermodynamic cycle analysis

• Performed design calculations of the condensate recovery tank as per Indian Boiler Regulations

! Summer Intern, Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS), India (May 2010 – July 2010)

• Performed a study of the Emergency Diesel Generators used to power the Boiler Feed Pump in

the event of a grid failure.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

! Global Collaborative Engineering Design Project (2013)

• Re-design of GM concept car ENV 2.0 to suit urban commuter needs for the Chinese market for

the year 2030

• Designed the exterior for the vehicle using NX 8.0 through active collaboration with the sub-

team involved in vehicle structure design

• Project accomplished through collaboration between team members at five universities across

four different continents

! Numerical Simulation of flow in a Lid Driven Cavity (2013)

• A custom code was written in Fortran to solve for the flow in a two dimensional square lid driven

cavity using the Finite Volume Method

• Performed code verification study

• Detailed study of effects of varying Reynolds number, Mesh sizes etc. were made

! Heat Transfer Augmentation for flow in a pipe (2013)

• Studied the heat transfer augmentation for a pipe flow through introduction of geometrical features

inside the pipe using ANSYS CFX

• The shape of the geometrical feature was decided based on a balance between heat transfer

augmentation and pressure loss

! Exhaust Gas Flow in an Automobile Silencer (2011)

• Analysis of fluid flow in a typical expansion chamber muffler was performed using ANSYS Fluent.

• Studied the effects of varying the internal geometry of the muffler on the flow field

! Simulation of Wingtip Vortex and Effect of Addition of Wingtip Devices (2010)

• Conventional Wings were modeled in Pro-E and the model was simulated for subsonic flow in

ANSYS Fluent to capture wingtip vortex

• Wingtip fence were added to the original configuration and the simulation was performed again.

Reduction in drag coefficient was observed as expected.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITES

! Co-ordinator, Mime Club, BITS Goa, 2010-2011

! Core-member, Mime Club, BITS Goa, 2009-2010

! Event Manager for the dramatics event ‘Skime’ held during ‘Waves 2010’, the annual inter-university

cultural festival of BITS-Pilani Goa Campus.

! Secured 2nd position in ‘Chemo-o-matics’, an engineering design event in QUARK ’10, the annual

inter-university technical festival of BITS Pilani, Goa

! Secured Merit at the event ‘Mars rover’, a robotics challenge in QUARK ‘09
