Project Engineering - Senior Engineer

Project/Construction Manager responsible for the implementation of capital and expense projects within a

GMP manufacturing facility.

• Act as an interface and conduit to manufacturing, facilities, engineering, quality assurance,

validation and stakeholders. Responsible for initiating and managing change control records from

inception to close out.

• Involved in developing charters, user requirement specifications, functional requirements

specifications, conceptual schematic, design development, construction document cost estimates,

value engineering practices and risk management contingency plans.

• Conduct design professional and contractor evaluation selection, contractor pre-qualification and

bid invitation.

• Lead and conduct design constructability reviews.

• Participate and lead engineering teams in contract development and negotiations.

• Ensure revision controls are in place on contract documents (drawings, specifications, equipment

data sheets, etc.) and other pertinent documentation.

• Ensure field contractor work packages, contractor pre-work planning forms, safety plans and other

quality construction documentation are in place prior to the execution of construction activities.

• Administer the generation and execution of all construction/commissioning control processes

which include purchase requisitions, submittals, request for information, change orders,

lockout/tagout procedures, confined space programs/permits, hotwork permits and commissioning

plans and protocols.

• Supervise contractors in the field to ensure Amgen Standard Operating Procedures, Amgen

Manufacturing Procedures, OHSA and GMP/FDA guideline measures are met.

• Guide field contractors in scheduling, manpower and material purchases are within specifications,

schedules and budget constraints.

securing Certificate of Occupancy from local building department jurisdictions

• Communicate any manufacturing schedule changes which directly impact project schedules.

Consulted directly with clients, and provided a full spectrum of project/construction management services

from project inception to closeout. Services included:

o Supporting clients in gathering requirements for programming and space planning,

developing schematic, conceptual, design development and construction document cost

estimates, conducting design professional and contractor evaluation selection,

contractor pre-qualification and bid invitation.

o Perform value engineering, change order evaluation and negotiation, risk management,

contingency analysis. In addition coordinates interrelated activities involving owners,

to end testing, outages and securing of certificate of occupancy from local building

MAJOR PROJECTS:

• Amgen – January 7, 2005 – November 18, 2007 - Project

Manager/Owners Representative for Amgen Project Management Office. Served as a project

management team leader for an adjunct Capstone team on site for construction and start-up

projects in manufacturing supporting new product introduction.

• Centura Health – May 5, 2003 – December 20, 2004 - Project

Manager/Owner’s Representative for Littleton Adventist Hospital. The following projects

completed are as follows: Children’s After Hours (Pediatrics), Mammography/Ultrasound

Expansion and Remodel, Surgery Center Remodel, Quest Lab Remodel and Expansion and

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Remodel and Expansion. These projects had a combined square

footage of 30,000 and had a total value of $4.9M

• GE Access – December 4, 2002 – May 2, 2003 - Project

Manager/Owners Representative for relocating GE Access corporate headquarters from Boulder,

CO. to Broomfield, CO. The scope of the project was an 80,000 square foot tenant finish build out

of an existing core and shell building. The project was valued at $9M.

• Sutter Health – July 16, 2002 – November 25, 2002 – Project

Manager responsible for developing and implementing an Enterprise Project Management

System. Also responsible for training the client in project management control practices.

• McData Corporation – February 19, 2002 – July 15, 2002 -

Project Manager/Owners Representative for the new corporate campus building. The new

campus building consisted of 169,000 square feet of engineering/office space including a 2500

square foot data center. Responsibilities included over site of the Design Team/General

Contractor to ensure all work was completed to McData Corporation specifications, construction

documents and costing data was recorded and accurate. Directly tasked with managing the

installation of mechanical and electrical building systems, data/voice network infrastructure that

included a new data center, main distribution facilities and eight intermediate distribution

facilities for the information technology department. The total project was valued at $80M

• Construction Office – November 5, 2001 – February 18, 2002 - Supported clients in

developing conceptual, schematic, design and construction drawing cost estimates.

• GE Access – September 09, 1999 – November 2, 2001 - Worked directly with the

client to provide consultation in the evaluation, assessment, design, development,

and implementation of project management and controls practices in Facilities

Management, Network Management, Oracle and Web application related projects.

Assisted in the development and maintenance of program schedules, tracking

progress of work, budgets, resource planning, detailed cutover scheduling/support

including the gathering and compiling of information provided by the client.

Prepared data input/output for the master scheduling network system as well as

status summaries required for reporting. Responsible for estimating high level

projected costs dictated by the project charter, scope statement, historical

information and initial project requirements. In turn, responsible for creating and

tracking detailed cost estimates determined by hardware, software and resource

availability, for executive level reporting on project deliverables.

Facilities Project Manager

• Responsibilities included oversight of all phases of facilities projects from start up to completion,

which encompassed the criteria development of facility projects, including coordination of internal

resources and contractor work schedules. Lead and participated in cross-functional teams for

problem solving, system development issues, process changes and/or improvements. Analyzed,

organized and managed project workload, assigned and coordinated project responsibilities.

• The scope of the projects consisted of clean room new build and modifications, high-end tenant

finish, laboratory fit-up, mechanical installations (process piping, chillers, cooling towers, boilers

and HVAC infrastructure, pre-action fire protection/suppression systems, etc.), central utility plant,

waste water treatment plant, low and high voltage electrical installations (UPS/transformer, etc.),

proto-line/production line manufacturing reconfigurations, computer data center upgrades/remodels,

network management infrastructure, communication fiber optic installs, roof installations, road and

parking lot installations, landscaping.

• Established and maintained performance procedures for outside architects, engineers and contractors

employed on StorageTek premises.

• Developed high level conceptual budget estimates, design parameters and specifications for RFP's

going out to external design teams.

• Scheduled and lead design review meetings to provide construction management insight and input

related to construction methods, materials, feasibility, budget and schedules.

• Procured outside vendors through a standardized bidding process.

• Controlled and interpreted transmittals and shop drawings submitted for design approval ensuring

correct documentation of receipt and timelines of review.

• Interfaced with engineering to resolve any design conflicts, errors and omissions, or revisions to the

contract documents. In turn worked closely with departmental management, in-house personnel and

outside contractors to quickly resolve any project related issues.

• Controlled project budgets through financial management, planning, forecasting, and control

procedures. Supervise contractors in the field to emphasize the highest quality workmanship while

adhering to StorageTek contract documents /specifications, standard Building Codes and OSHA

requirements. Ensured labor charges and proper pricing of materials were correct on all payment

requests and that all change orders related to a project are legitimate and adhere to the terms and

conditions of the contract. Verification that all work has been completed to contract documents and

all costing data was recorded and accurate.
