Objective: to apply my scientific and technical research skills in the biotechnology or
biopharmaceutical industries
Education:
2000-2007 The University of Iowa, PhD in Biochemistry, May 2007.
1997-2000 Brigham Young University, BS Degree, Biochemistry, May 2000.
1992-1997 Ricks College, Associate Degree, April 1997
Research Experience:
2008-current Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Montana, Division of Biological
Sciences, mentor: Jesse C. Hay, PhD. Elucidated a mechanism of
neurotoxicity of alpha-synuclein, a protein that when overexpressed or
mutated causes familial Parkinson’s disease. In a second project, I
discovered a role for luminal calcium and elucidated its signaling effector
pathway in the early stages of the biosynthetic secretory pathway.
2007-2008 Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Iowa, Department of Biochemistry,
mentor: John E. Donelson, PhD. Analyzed a large cDNA library set from
different lifecycle stages of Trypanosomes.
2001-2007 PhD thesis research, University of Iowa, Department of Biochemistry,
mentor: John E. Donelson, PhD. Title: “Differential Regulation of the
MSP (GP63) Genes in African Trypanosomes.” Understand RNA
regulation and stabilization in the lifecycle of Trypanosomes.
1998-2000 Brigham Young University, Department of Integrative Biology, mentor:
Michael F. Whiting, PhD. Processed mitochondrial and nuclear DNA
sequences to establish relationships among 69 species of Hawaiian
Platynini, a monophyletic beetle.
1998 Brigham Young University, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, mentor:
Terry S. Elton, PhD. Cloned and sequenced alternatively spliced mRNA
products of the human angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor gene, involved
in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, toward understanding the
importance of alternative splicing as a mechanism of regulating number
and function of the AT1 receptor.
