High-throughput screening and identification of cell factors required

for replication of HIV-1 and other viruses in primary human

macrophages

Investigating the role of CD63 and other tetraspane transmembrane

proteins in HIV infection by siRNA transfection in cell lines.

Carried out experiments with primary human macrophages to look at

the traffic of CD63 inside of the cell upon infection with HIV.

Expression of CD81 protein as a potential target for oligonucleotide

type drug development

Evaluated Peramivir against pandemic and epidemic influenza virus

infection with ferret animal model.

Carried out transfection in human cell lines for generation of

recombinant vaccine influenza virus.

Designed the PCR system for detection of influenza virus strain in

ferret nasal washes with strain specific as well as universal influenza

A primers.

Established the Reverse-Transcriptase PCR system for detection of

resistance mutations in virus stock.

Developed of Reverse Transcriptase-PCR assay for detection of

different strains of Junin virus in animal organs and tissues.

Demonstrated the role of chemokine storm during infection with

virulent, attenuated and vaccine strains of VEEV in primary

microglia and astrocytes cell culture.

Examined function of different brain cell types and blood/brain

barrier in chemokine production and protection against lethal VEEV.

Showed the role of γδ T cells subset in brain infection with

recombinant Sindbis/VEEV vaccine strain virus.

Determined the DNA structure of persistent VEE virus isolated from

mouse brain and initiated the studies on its role in latent VEEV

infection.

Established primary mouse brain cell culture as an ex vivo model of

alphavirus infection and a potential alternative to animal in vivo

experiments.

Showed the effectivity of morpholinos against VEEV in mouse

animal model.
