Clinical Educator
Clinical Educator role responsible for addressing the educational needs of
the nursing staff.
Responsibilities: Assess and analyze the educational needs of the nursing
staff; direct, plan implement and evaluate appropriate learning activities;
act as a consultant to and support for the Leadership Team in the area of
professional practice and delivery of patient care. In addition, the
position facilitates and leads clinical process improvement that promotes
efficient effective care. This includes development of clinical pathways
to assist with the flow of patients across the continuum of care from
hospitalization to rehabilitation/long term care placement and involvement
of home care resources to reduce rehospitalizations. I also lead
multidisciplinary patient care rounds on the inpatient units to assist with
identification of patient care issues that may impact length of stay,
patient disposition and potential rehospitalization.

the cardiologist or
independently I prescribed medications, interventions/testing and
consults. I also had
scheduled office hours where I independently treated patients with
reimbursement as directed

resource to staff,
interns and residents.

Assessed, managed and evaluated outcomes of patients admitted to
hospital/seen in outpatient clinic with a cardiac disorder.
Responsibilities: Obtained health history and performed comprehensive
physical examination on all patients admitted to CCU and Telemetry,
assessed and documented progress on patients on a daily basis, assessed
actual/potential complications, prioritized investigations to be performed
and reassessed medications and treatments on admission and discharge from
the unit/hospital. In collaboration with the cardiologist, or
independently I prescribed select medications, interventions/treatments
and consults. In addition I performed the following: peripheral arterial
line insertion (radial, brachial and pedal), chest tube removal,
cardioversion, removal/repositioning of central venous catheters, PA
catheters and temporary transvenous pacing catheters, PICC insertion and
all Added Nursing Skills and Controlled Medical Acts performed by the
Critical Care Nursing Staff. I also developed and managed the Heart
Function Clinic, an outpatient clinic for patients with a diagnosis of
Heart Failure who required medication titration and close physical
monitoring to prevent readmission to hospital for Heart Failure.
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner-Intensive Care Unit 1996 - 1999
Assessed, managed and evaluated outcomes of critically ill adults and
children who are physiologically unstable and technology dependent.
Responsibilities:
*performed all roles/duties/procedures as described for ACNP-Cardiology
*acted as hospital-wide consultant for issues regarding wound care and
pain management
