Work Experience:
February 2012- Present: Elastomer Chemist: Research and Development, Shin-Etsu Silicones of
America, Akron, Ohio
Responsibilities include:
Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Communicate progress to sales, in cases of new
development, or Production/QC, in cases of existing products.
Formulate silicone rubber, adhesive sealants, potting gels, mold-making material, and conformal
coatings for new products, or improving existing products. Generate study plan and prepare
small samples (50-400g), conduct testing, analyze data from testing to interpret results to
determine next formulation to meet desired properties targets.
Preparation and QC of medium size samples (5L) for customer evaluation.
Determine final formulation and mix procedure needed to move material to production.
Prepare scale-up samples (40L).
Perform statistical analysis of existing data from development to establish specifications for QC.
Determine if cost-reducing measures can be implemented by formulation modification without
sacrificing performance of properties desired by customer.
Evaluate material determined to be noncompliant by QC. Investigate batch sheet and raw
materials used by Production and methods used by QC to insure proper procedures were used
and RMs used were not suspect. Validate individual raw materials by preparation and testing of
small samples. Evaluate historical data for production. Determine if formula change is needed by
manipulating variables in formula which would improve test results by small scale
experimentation. Make RM, formula or process change recommendations to Production.
Evaluate new RMs for suitability in existing formulation.
Obtain MSDSs for new product formulations by working with Regulatory/HSE.
Maintain good order in laboratory. Keep inventory of RMs and supplies. Order and procure new
inventory as needed.
Train incoming employees in R&D, including safety, chemistry, samples preparation, testing,
customer application, troubleshooting equipment, test methods and experimental design, RMs,
and formulation to achieve desired properties.
Supervise daily activities for and provide assignment to up 4 chemists and/or technicians.
Interact directly with sales to develop new products to meet customer demands. Developed
system to prioritize, manage and report progress in up to 15 different projects simultaneously.
Traveled to visit customers to serve as technical expert in RTV products.
Use expertise in RTV chemistry, process, RMs, and testing to make recommendation for
improvements to Production, QC, Sales, Regulatory/HSE.
Research new equipment, and make purchases by coordinating with purchasing agents and
accounting.

Responsibilities include:
Preparing samples for testing silicone rubber, sealants, conformal coatings and cosmetic bases,
additives and catalysts via solvation and application.
Testing uncured samples for specific gravity, viscosity, rheometry, refractive index, and volatility.
Testing cured samples for specific gravity, tensile characteristics, cure rate and hardness.
Keeping accurate records of data, and troubleshooting and retesting samples and instruments
giving anomalous readings.
Compiling and releasing data using Oracle software to confirm product reliability.
August 2011-November 2011: Lab Technician, PPG, Cleveland, Ohio
Responsibilities include:
Assembling letdowns of water-based and solvent-based paint from base, pigment, mica, and
catalyst.
Measuring and adjusting pH using pH meter and viscosity using CAP 2000+.
Performing and analyzing drawdowns on samples for purposes of standardization and
