Executive Vice President (September 2012- March 2013)

Responsible for the departments of Operations, Sales, Human Resources, Service, Parts,

Leasing/Rental, Accounting, Finance, Safety, Leadership Development, Training, IT,

Benefits/Payroll/Retirement, and six locations

Southeastern Freight Lines, Columbia, South Carolina (1986-2012)

Senior Vice President (2000-2012)

For 18 years I performed in a Senior Vice President position accountable for all Human Resource,

Safety, Benefits/Compensation, Risk Management, Legal, Organizational Development,

Claims/Loss Prevention, Quality, and Security Departments. During my 26 year tenure the

corporation developed from having 800 associates in 3 states and $80 million in annual revenue

to a corporation that operates in 12 states throughout the Southeast with 79 locations and 7,000

associates, 4,000 of which are CDL/Hazmat endorsement drivers, and having annual revenue of

$800+ million. I was responsible for all named department Vice Presidents and Directors, 5

Regional Safety Managers, 4 Field Human Resource Managers, 2 auto liability Claims Adjusters,

as well as 2 attorneys. These departments under my leadership were created and centralized to

support all 79 locations, aiding the company’s recognition as an industry leader in all major

transportation metrics.

• Human Resources:

Centralized all HR processes, grew department to 20 team members including Vice

o

President, Director, and 4 Regional Manager Positions leading all associates, which

qualified it as one of the top HR departments in the industry.

Reduced on-boarding process by 50%.

o

Created hiring assessment criteria to support culture values for all positions.

o

Driver turnover decreased from 16% to 9% remaining consistent, significantly better

o

than industry average.

Decreased fulltime turnover from 26% to 12%.

o

• Safety:

Developed and centralized department into 25 team members including Vice President,

o

18 Field Safety Specialists, 5 Regional Safety Managers, and Director of Regulatory and

Compliance for 4,000 CDL/hazmat endorsement drivers.

Accidents showed continuous improvement over a five year period decreasing from 9 per

o

million miles to a consistent 2 per million miles. Recognized as an industry leader.

Injuries improved annually from 10 plus per 200,000 hours to a consistent rate of 4 per

o

200,000 hours.

Training for all CDL/Hazmat holders and created 13 certified Hazmat Specialist positions.

o

Investigation and clean-up for all hazmat spills and vehicle accidents.

o

Coordination of CSA and TSA requirements, as well as compliance and regulatory

o

challenges.

• Benefits/Compensation/Retirement:

Created and centralized department to support self-insured healthcare plan including:

o

vision, dental, life, short and long term disability, health and wellness communications,

supplemental benefits, and Cobra administration.

Managed annual healthcare budget of $57 million covering 16,000 lives.

o

Created compensation department to direct a salary administration process.

o

Fiduciary responsibility of $390 million in 401K retirement plan.

o

• Risk Management:

Created and centralized department to handle worker compensation and auto liability;

o

while administering light duty process for injured workers. Department consisted of

attorneys, certified claims adjusters, and supporting staff.

Auto liability and workers’ compensation claims consistently came in under reserves

o

amount. The department managed all claims from start to finish regardless of amount.

Authorized by the insurance company to handle all auto liability claims of $250,000 or

o

less without their involvement, as a result of consistent department efficiency.

• Legal:

Created department of 2 in-house attorneys: one acting as general counsel in related

o

liability issues and litigation for the corporation, and the other handling potential

litigation for Risk Management department.

• Leadership/Organizational Development:

Created and developed department for succession planning of all potential management

o

leaders, implementation of learning management system, and culture enhancement

training for 7,000 associates.

• Claims/Loss Prevention:

Developed department into 16 associates to process all customer claims reports.

o

Estimated flow of $10 million in freight claims annually with payout of a third or less

o

consistently.

Managed the corporation’s salvage warehouse.

• Quality:

Responsible for formalized Quality Improvement process and Statistical Process Control.

Fully deployed throughout the corporation.

All associates trained in Quality Improvement within 60 days of employment.

• 1992, developed and implemented a statistical process control program - deployed throughout

all locations.

• 1992, became Assistant to the President, including duties of handling executive paper flow,

special projects, and customer-executive visits to corporate office.

Regional Sales Manager (1989-1990)

• First Regional Sales Manager: accountable for 63 local account managers throughout the

Southeast.
