Profile

PhD in Mechanical Engineering with focus on Computational Mechanics. Specialize in developing

computer programs for mathematical models. Over 7 years of industrial and academic experience

in High Performance Computing. Worked in team environments as well as on individual projects.

Excels in solving problems.

Skills

• High performance computing (HPC) • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) • Smooth particles

hydrodynamics (SPH) • Finite elements methods (FEM) • MPI • C/C++ • Python • Fortran

• Matlab • Linux • Automake

Education

• University at Buffalo, The State University of New York

Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, Aug 2006 – Aug 2012

• University at Buffalo, The State University of New York

M.S., Mechanical Engineering, Jan 2003 – June 2005

• Regional Engineering College, Silchar, Assam, India

B.E., Mechanical Engineering, Aug 1995 – June 1999

Computational Experience

• Postdoctoral Fellow, Virginia Commonwealth University (July 2013 – present):

Developing tools for deformable image registration of cervix organs, with the purpose of

accurately accumulating radiation dose in cancer patients. Two separate methods are being

deployed simultaneously. The first one uses uniform basis splines and other uses Finite

Elements.

• PhD Dissertation, University at Buffalo (Aug 2006 – Aug 2012):

Designed and implemented a three-dimensional Godunov-SPH method for the simulation of

free-surface geophysical flows, for example landslides, lahars over the natural terrains. The

code is implemented in C++ with MPI used for parallel computations, with dynamic load

balancing. The code is also interfaced with GIS to input real-life terrain map.

• Graduate Research Assistant, University at Buffalo (Aug 2006 – Aug 2012):

Worked with geologists around the world to adapt TITAN2D to solve the problems that

pertain to their individual needs. TITAN2D is a geoflow simulator based on the assumption

of shallowness of geophysical flows. My major contributions include,

i) Two-phase model for application to glacial lake outburst floods ii) Simulation of

channelized flows iii) Compatibility with HDF5 data format iv) Capability to input multiple

GIS formats

• Graduate Research Assistant, University at Buffalo (Aug 2009 - Jan 2011):

Worked on driver safety investigation under frontal crash scenarios of heavy trucks, a

project funded by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A finite-element model

for Madymo was developed.

• Jr. Software Developer, Aspeed Software (Aug 2005 – Aug 2006):

Aspeed Software was a small start up in New York, NY. It provided grid-enabled solutions

to clients in banking and pharmaceutical industry.

i) Developed software tools, that enable client codes based on non-linear mathematical

equations, such as finite elements methods and finite difference methods, to run on multiple

processors ii) Parallelized NONMEM, a non-linear regression tool, for pharmacokinetics

• Graduate Research Assistant, University at Buffalo (Jan 2003 – June 2005):

Developed numerical solution to two-phase debris flow equations, using approximate

Riemann solvers. The code is capable for simulating water-laden geoflows on real life

terrains.

i) written in C++ and Fortran ii) runs in parallel on 100s of cores on distributed memory

machines iii) adaptive mesh refinement allows it to run efficiently on desktop hardware as

well iv) distributed freely under open-source license

Non-computational Experience

• Engineer II at Denso Haryana Pvt. Ltd. (Aug 1999 – Aug 2003):

Denso Haryana Pvt. Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of DENSO Corporation, a leading

automotive systems manufacturer. The facility at Denso Haryana is manufacturing Fuel

Management Systems, primarily for Indian automakers.
