EMPLOYMENT: Hired by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department on 8-04-1994 as an Office Assistant II. On 8-8-1999 I moved out of the state. I returned to California on January 2000 and was rehired as an Office Assistant II by the Sheriff’s Department. I resigned from the Sheriff’s Department on October 4, 2004.
QUALIFICATIONS: Working for the Sheriff’s Department, over the approximately 10 year period, has given me the experience and skills that would be needed to handle a variety of job duties in an office. While taking care of my job duties, I also greeted persons that would come into the front desk, answering any questions they may have. If I was unable to answer their questions then I would find someone that could be of assistance to them. I am a very hard-working individual and believe in being on time to my job. If asked for help or directed to another job temporarily I’ve always been willing to do that job as asked.
During my employment with the County of Tulare, I operated many different computer programs: CAD, CLETS, JALAN, LASERFISCHE, and LIVESCAN. The programs are designed for input of vital information for the sheriff’s department.
It was very important that the information was entered accurately. Later when it was needed it could be accessed and printed up for the officers to use for court purposes or follow-ups. Each of the secretaries in the office, of course, had their own designated duties to perform, but at the same time we would all pitch in if the other needed help with their work load.
The responsibilities I carried out on a daily basis were numerous. My specific responsibility was the preparation of a variety of paperwork for several departments in the county area. Compiling of reports and obtaining criminal histories with the use of our computer system on felony cases and others that would be routed to the District Attorney. This guaranteed that the D.A., would see the paperwork and file. Obtaining and printing our driving histories for our citations made by the officers, and then forwarded to traffic court.
Faxing copies of reports to various county agencies such as probation, parole, child protective services, immigration and other jails and law enforcement agencies.
I was responsible for a criminal case log, which listed every case number that was drawn by the deputies at our sub-station. I made sure that they were drawn correctly and also that the deputy turned that report in on time. If a case number was incorrect or the same number had been given to another officer I had to request a new case number and notify the officer of the change. If no case number was drawn I had to make sure to obtain one for the report. If the reports were not turned in on time as should have been, I went into CAD and print out the incident and the case number drawn and forwarded this to the officer’s Sergeant so he could follow up with the officers and make sure it was completed and turned in so I could mark it off of the log. After every report was turned in I was responsible to enter every report into the computer program as well as any follow-ups, closed reports, D.A. filings or any D.A. rejections and also I was responsible to forward the report if needed to another officer coming on duty so he could continue the investigation. At times when the property detectives secretary was absent I would enter any property that was stolen from any burglary. After I entered the reports they were then scanned using the Laserfische computer program. This entered them into the data base. When the officers needed a copy of their report for court purposes or follow-up we could enter a case number into the system, pull up the report and print it out for them. I was also responsible for the electronic fingerprinting, this was known as Livescan. I entered all the person’s information into the system then fingerprinted them, their information was immediately sent to DOJ. We used the Livescan as verification for employment and also as the process to qualify for a Concealed Weapons permit. I also was responsible for releasing reports to the public, following the office procedure and only releasing reports that could be legally released.
I answered a multi-line phone, transferred calls to our dispatch, making sure that the calls got through for those that needed some type of law enforcement assistance. Transferring calls within our own office, forwarding to officers voicemail.
I renewed Concealed Weapons permits and did the initial permit paperwork and took the payments for such permits. The Megans Law computer was located at our front counter. This is the sex offender computer system. This was open to the public, I offered assistance in entering in the information that was needed to help the public locate a person in the area and noting if they were registered.
Operating the JALAN computer program was done on a daily basis also. This program was used to locate anyone in custody throughout the state of California. When probation or parole called wanting to know if we arrested someone we could tell them where they were arrested and locate the facility they were being held.
