Relevant Work
Experience:
2012-Current European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
Graduate Engineering Training. Currently working in the septa
section of the beam transfer group, (beam injection and
extraction from various particle accelerators).
Experiences included static, transient and fatigue, non-linear
multi-body structural analysis using Ansys workbench.
Design and Development work on projects to upgrade key devices
in the accelerator network, working with radiation hard
materials in ultra-high vacuum.
Life-cycle analysis of key components in harsh operational
environments dealing with high cyclic loading.
Reading engineering drawings and drafting work using Catia V5
and Smarteam packages.
Working in a diverse international environment.
2010 - 2011 Hitachi Rolling Stock (Vulcanus in Japan) Participated on
the Vulcanus program in Japan, studying Japanese at the Naganuma
Language School based in Tokyo. After which I completed
internship at Hitachi's Kasado Works Rolling stock factory in
Japan. During my internship I was based in the quality assurance
department ensuring that the quality of the Shinkansen and Tokyo
metro trains met their relevant standards. During this time I
also wrote various reports on the Hitachi made class 395, a new
high speed train running from Dover to St Pancras in London,
looking into the long term reliability of this train and how it
compared to the rest of the UK fleet.
2007 - 2008 Thales UK. I spent 9 months working in the aerospace Mechanical
Design department at Thales UK based in Crawley. Key tasks of my
placement included Mechanical design, 3D modeling/2D drafting
and control of product defining data. Additional tasks that I
conducted on placement were contributing to bids to win new
contracts and supporting the department head in the
administration, development, and formation of strategy. Skills
acquired while on placement include advanced use of Pro-engineer
CAD software, proficiency in creating engineering drawings and
proficiency in using Microsoft excel.
October 2004 ERA, Leatherhead, Surrey. I spent two weeks work
experience at ERA an Engineering company based in Leatherhead.
During my time there I spent my first week working in the Design
department and then the second week was split in the Assembly
and Manufacturing workshops.
Education:

Distinction classification having archived a 74% average.
Final year subjects include: Industrial Control Systems, Project
Management, Energy Management, Structural Application of Finite
Elements, Structural Integrity, Computational Fluid Dynamics,
and Group Engineering Project.
Awarded the ImechE Project Prize for 3rd year thesis project on
the chassis of the formula student car.
2008 - 2009 Achieved a Diploma in Industrial Studies
For report on sandwich year.
2003 - 2005 Guildford College, UK

Experience:
Summer 2006 Anytainment UK. - Party and Events Hire, Surrey.
2007 & 2009 Working as part of a team constructing and dismantling
marquees and bouncy castles
for parties and events. Achieved team manager role in summer
2009, this involved dealing with customers, overseeing
construction and identifying health and safety issues.
Hobbies and
Interests: Formula Student Portsmouth. Formula student is an international
racing event that challenges student to design and manufacture a
single seated racing car. The aim of the project is to not only
to develop the car but to also develop skills as an engineer.
Portsmouth first competed in the class one event in the 2008-
2009 season. During this time I was section head of the drive
train. As a team we passed scrutineering which is a large
achievement for a 1st year team. During the 2009-2010 season I
was the team leader and head of chassis design and manufacture.
Skills I developed included. Project Management, Compromise,
Design, Development and Manufacture, use of Pro-Engineer
software, FEA using ANSYS software, Working with local companies
to help with manufacturing.
Mountaineering/Rock Climbing. Member of University of Portsmouth
Mountaineering club. President of the club in 2007.
Scouting: Was an active member of the scouting movement for roughly
10 years. Achieved teaching level kayaking grades and Duke of
Edinburgh Awards.
