An international mining and natural resources company and producer of iron ore pellets in North
America and metallurgical coal.
General Manager – renewaFUEL and Alternative Energies (2008 thru 2011)
renewaFUEL is a subsidiary of Cliffs NR. A start up company dealing with biomass as a coal
replacement technology .
Responsible for the evolution of the Battle Creek, Mi facility from a test pilot plant into a fully
operational facility supplying biofuel test burn material to municipal power plants and
universities.
• Implemented a critical spare system to better utilize the equipment and insure quality improving
tests burns of upwards to 500 ton to municipal power plants such as First Energy, Cleveland
Thermal, Wyandott Municipal Services, and provide a consistent 20 T / week supply to Michigan
State University.
Managed the operational initiatives associated with the construction of a large scale
commercial biofuel (renewaFUEL) facility located in Marquette, Mi. $25 million capital
project.

Managed safety, quality control, labor and customer relations, cost control, ISO / TS
implementation, production scheduling, maintenance, and shipping in this 90 person non
union strip steel facility.
Managed 25 person salaried staff included sales, quality control, IT functions, accounting,
maintenance, operations, and production planning.
Developed a Safety program that resulted in record setting consecutive “No Lost Work Days”.
Initiated and developed with a local university in house training courses for the Supervisory
Team focusing on Team Building, Coaching, Verbal and Written communication skills, and
various legal issues.
Achieved record setting quarterly profit sharing results for 3 consecutive quarters.
• Averted 2 attempts at unionization via sound management and communication techniques.
