Design of Pressure Vessel for University of Cincinnati

Summer/Fall 2011

. Purpose of the vessel was to study the behavior of Atomized Aviation

fuel gel

. Vessel was designed to house supercharged nozzles to atomize the fuel

gel and several sight glass units to observe the process

. Design Parameter included High Pressure and high quality visibility

from the sight glass ports

. The designed was conformed to ASME codes and the Finite Element

Analysis was done using FEMLab and Autodesk Inventor Simulation

. CNC programming was done for manufacturing of various Sight glass

units and other components using MasterCam

Design of Spray Chamber for University of Wisconsin/Delphi Spring

Purpose of Chamber was to study the Flow of Spray inside an Automobile 2011

engine

Chamber was designed to house a fuel injector and several Sight glass

units to observe the evolution of spray inside the chamber

Design parameters included both High Pressure & High Temperature

The design of the Spray Chamber was conformed to ASME Codes and the Finite

Element Analysis was done using FEMLab & AutoDesk Inventor Design

Simulation

CNC programming was done for manufacturing of the chamber & sight glass

units using Mastercam

The Results of Hydrostatic Test conformed to the FEA

. Finite element analysis of a plate subjected to point & pressure loads

was done

. Abaqus was used for mesh generation

. Both geometric and material nonlinearity were taken into account

separately and together

. Results obtained showed growth of plastic region and critical

locations like notches

CFD analysis of flow over a cavity Fall

2009

. Analysis of steady flow of incompressible fluid over a two-dimensional

cavity was done

. Code was written in Matlab to solve the Navier-Stokes equations with

viscous boundary conditions

. Streamline plots showed generation of vorticity inside the cavity

Thermal Design Engineer on CubeSat Spring/Summer 2009

. CubeSat is a satellite under construction at USC

. Temperature management required based on optimum working temperature

ranges of components

. SolidWorks model were used in THERMICA to calculate thermal fluxes and

temperatures of various parts

. Tested for various cases e.g. multiple orbits, cold case (eclipsed

orbit), hot case (sun sync orbit)

. Design succeeded in achieving the desired temperature ranges by

putting Multi-Layered coatings.

. Finite element analysis of a wall subjected to point & pressure loads

was done

. Abaqus was used for mesh generation

. Code was written in Matlab to calculate displacement and stresses

. Results were confirmed by Abaqus

Reduction of Cycle Time of Robotic Welding Line Summer 2007

. Welding line of automobile manufacturing plant at Suzuki was analyzed

and time analysis was done

. Reduction of 1 sec in Cycle time was achieved by re-allocation of

welding spots

Mechanical Design of a Gokart Fall

2006

. Components designed included disk brakes, frame and chained drive

train.

. Pro Engineer was used for modeling and Pro Mechanica was used for

analysis.

. Disk Brakes were designed based on desired retardation requirements.

. Chained drive was designed based on Brake Horse Power requirement.

. Static analysis of frame was done as simply supported beam.

. Dynamic analysis of all parts was done taking cornering effects into

account.

. A stable prototype with all the structural details was developed.
