Dear Human Resources:
My print journalism experience and my editing and writing skills makes me
an excellent candidate to fill the copy editor position with The Eastridge
Group in Las Vegas.
That experience includes copy editing content for a Las Vegas-based credit
card company on a temporary basis through the Apple One employment agency
from November 2013 to January 2014.
My most recent writing and journalism experience was as a reporter for
Pacific Business News in Honolulu, HI. I covered transportation, including
Honolulu International Airport, military contracting, health care, sports,
and other subjects. That job honed my writing abilities and it improved
other skills of mine that would be assets for the copy editor position.
I was a freelance editor and reporter for Patch.com in the San Francisco
Bay Area before I took the job with Pacific Business News. I wrote news
stories, edited news articles, shot digital photos and videos, and I posted
stories and other content online.
During my career, I also worked for the military's independent newspaper,
Stars and Stripes, in Europe (www.stripes.com). I was based in Germany and
I worked in England and Italy as well. I shot digital photos for that job,
wrote several news stories each week, and pitched stories to editors.
Before I worked for Stars and Stripes in Europe, I was a reporter for the
Daily News Group and the Bay Area News Group. The Daily News Group's
publications include the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, Oakland
Tribune, and other newspapers. I covered Stanford University and general
assignment before I transferred to cover the cities of Burlingame, San
Carlos, and Foster City. I also covered police and public safety and San
Francisco International Airport.
I have also worked for another daily newspaper chain in the San Francisco
Bay Area during my career. I covered a city in the Bay Area before I
switched beats to cover the police and public safety. Covering cops in a
metropolitan area sharpened my abilities to work under tight deadlines and
work in a fast-paced environment.
My experience in the Bay Area included an assignment in San Diego in early
2002 to report on two Marines after they returned from Afghanistan. The San
Diego assignment was my idea, and it showed I can work well away from the
office and work independently when I have to do so.
I believe my experience and my talents would be valuable for the copy
editor position, and I look forward to discussing that opportunity with you
in the near future.

I am a skilled writer and journalist with more than 13 years of experience
